the fan in my power supply is making like a whining noise, like it needs WD-40 or something.i have a gateway 835 GM.

when i turn the computer on it is alright for a little while but eventually the fan starts doing it and its so loud and annoying. I thought it was my harddrive at first, but then realized it was the power supply.

would it be safe to try and squrt some wd-40 in there? haha or would it be better to just get a new power supply? and how much power do i need?. its got an intel pentium D processor. also are there different size power supplies? or are they all the same size?

get a new power supply.

if you take that bitch apart without knowing what you're doing, you could end up hurt.

and we dont want you crying about it in tech talk.

just remove the power supply and take it to intrex/tigerdirect/bestbuy and purchase a replacement.

the old one will tell you the wattage.

and power supplies range in price from about $10-$240. You get what you pay for.
