Looking for suggestions on salvage yards in the area that I could take my 1994 Ford Explorer Sport to and get a decent deal on. Maybe a couple hundred bucks or so. I bought it from a family friend with 149,000 on it and since then it has had a new clutch and transmition put on it. The new transmition didnt have many miles on it. Then on Sunday the clutch went out on me again. No need to spend money on it when I'm planning on buying a new truck in 6 months or so. The vehicle now has 172,000 miles on it and prior to me owning it there hadnt been any problems. Hit the 150,000 on the ford and it was downhill. I think there's a Salvage lot in Durham and some in Mebane, but just wanted to get peoples opinion on this. 3/14/2006 7:13:00 PM |

you'll be lucky to get $50 for it at a junkyard on something any more than a few years old. that's with you taking it to them. if they have to come get it, they won't give you anything. 3/14/2006 7:39:51 PM |

My 92 5spd has been pretty good at holding the stop leak since I sucked the oil out of it, but if its the same Mazda transmission (takes 2 quarts of ATF) in yours, Id be interested in possibly coming to Raleigh and grabbing it.

that thing is definately not ready for the junkyard yet, and is the clutch slipping or just leaking down on fluid? if you dont change the hydrualic throwout when you change the clutch, they will leak in no time. if you only want a couple hundred for it, i may come take a look at it and take it off your hands for you. 3/14/2006 8:45:24 PM |

Junkyards pay $4.00 every hundred pounds, as long as the tires and gas tank are removed. FYI 3/14/2006 9:18:38 PM |
