So... the mechanic said my scooter won't start/run because the pistons are seized.

I'm about to take it out and see what I can do... can anyone offer advice on what this means I need to do.

the way I see it, I'm not going to pay 500$ more to get it fixed, so if I fuck it up, oh well..

What do I need todo??

thanks.

Yeah. Take it out back. Torch it.

If you want to try this: take the sparkplug out and fill the whole fucking motor up with Marvel Mystery Oil. Let it sit overnight. Drain out. Try cranking the engine over. No dice? Then it's time to pull the engine apart and try to get the piston out of the cylinder. At that point, if you get that far without majorly fucking it all up, you can try to clean up the piston with some 280 grit wet or dry sandpaper drenched in PB B'laster. You'll need to GENTLY work the ring loose and take it off the piston. You can try to clean up the outer edge of the ring as well, same method. Next, do the cylinder.

If you're really lucky, there won't be any really deep gouges in the piston or the cylinder, and you can put this piece of shit back together and REMEMBER TO MIX SOME FUCKING OIL IN YOUR GAS NEXT TIME. AS A MATTER OF FACT, GO AHEAD AND DOUBLE DOSE IT. The motor will need it to maintain some compression. You'll have to change plugs pretty often, but them's the breaks.

Other options: New piston/cylinder/ring or new fucking motor.

is it a 49cc? if so, trash it, parts are not availible, the entire engine/trans unit comes as one assembly for about $200. usually what happens to those is that people take the muffler off, it runs lean, the exhaust port melts, the ring catches it, and takes a huge chunk out of the cylinder wall. seen it happen too many times.

there are too parts available for 49cc engines

the Chinese knock-offs of the Honda actually have a pretty large aftermarket... parts should be interchangable between the knock-offs and the Honda engine

e.g.
http://cgi.ebay.com/Brand-New-47cc-49cc-Mini-Pocket-Bike-Rebuild-Kit_W0QQitemZ7223528483QQcategoryZ11332QQcmdZViewItem

there are even supercharger kits for those shits if you want to spend like $1500

for the discriminating liquor cycle commuter

^ they are not interchangeable, the chinese engines are built to such loose tolerances its fucking amazing they run to start with , and not only can you not get factory parts for them, most arent worth fixing and rarely last a few hundred hours.

[Edited on March 16, 2006 at 5:58 PM. Reason : ever wonder why a honda 50 short block costs about $600 and lasts 100*10^6 years?]]
