So my father-in-law is sending us a check for a car we are purchasing this week. Problem is, he sent it through the mail and sent it today. We are anticipating the check to arrive on Saturday. Does anyone know of anywhere around that will cash a $2000 check on a Saturday (that wont ass rape on charges)?

Are they? Which ones and do they cash checks from other banks? (We have SECU and my father-in-law has some little bank up in VA)

That's my bank, you can pick banks that have saturday hours on their site...

Yours however, let's see...

I have no idea.

Honestly, I don't see why cashing a check would be a problem at a different bank... It's just a check...

Well, I had been thinking about opening a second account at a different bank sometime soon...I was thinking Suntrust because there are several different branches near my house. To avoid hassel, maybe I will just go ahead and do that tomorrow? They have branches open on Saturdays, so I'm thinking about them. Anyone have any opinions on Suntrust?

Good Bank!!!!

first of all..Even if you open a checking account anywhere..u will not be able to cash the check the same day...by rule....

The best thing to cash a $2000 check is to go to the same bank where the check is written off of...which means ...if your father-in-law sends you a check which is drawn of of bank of america ...you can easily cash that check by going to bank of america...

In your case...the check you will be receiving is a local bank up in VA...which means you wont be able to find a branch here in NC...you will NOT be able to cash the check...

even if you open a checking account IN ANY BANK..its a bank policy to not give you the funds till your check has cleared. and your account has been setup right.

U've got 3 options

first to open a checking account...I"D GO WITH SUNTRUST...coz they even give you a $ 50 gift card FREEEEEEEE if you open a checking account..... and then when the check clears and your account is set up..on tuesday./wednesday.u'd have access to all the funds!!!!!!

They're open from 10 am to 4 pm on saturdays...

Instore suntrust branches have a limit of cashing upto only a $ 1000 dollars..and not more than $ 1000...

second is to go for check cashing places..i know of one on capital blvd...also...grocery stores cash checks but upto a certain amount...u can go find that out!!!!!!

3rd option...go to ur local bank..and cash the check....but only if you have a compensating balace of $ 2000 , will they cash your check....if you dont have that much in your account...they'd ask you to deposit the check!!!!!!

G'luck...

For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure the check cashing place on Capital is now closed.

Places like that made their money on payday advance loans with 500% interest rates, and now that they've agreed to stop that in NC, both Check 'n' Go and Check Into Cash have ceased operations in NC.

Okay, so I wont be able to get it cashed? I went ahead and set up a checking account with Suntrust today. So could I deposit the check into my account and then request a teller's check? Would they do that?

CCB is Suntrust. SouthTrust is now Wachovia. And, if you just opened the account on Friday, no way a bank will cash a $2000 check for you. The only way they would do it is if you opened the account with more than $2000 cash, so they would have recourse if the check was bad. Other than that, no bank is going ot take the chance that their 1 day old customer's $2000 check from a little bank in VA is good. Your best bet is a check cashing place.

It could take up to ten days for your check to enter your checking account (out of state and large sum). Just be patient - outside of someone doing you a personal favor, I don't think you can get money out of a check any faster.

yea, no place is going to CASH an out of state check. Deposit it and wait the 5-7 days any bank is going to hold it for.
