Ok, someone enlighten me on the intentional foul rules.
I heard that it works something like a technical (ie they get the ball back) but I wasn't sure. Also, I wondered what makes it intentional...I see teams foul at the end of games all the time--when is it intentional and when is it just a foul? 3/18/2006 12:01:36 PM |

intentional is a foul where no play is made for the ball. at the end of games, the player is ostensibly going for the ball when they foul, so its legal 3/18/2006 12:02:28 PM |

^^ its two shots and the ball (like a technical) but the person committing the flagrant/intentional just gets charged with a normal personal foul.
you'll see it called on fast breaks sometimes, and its supposed to be always called when a jersey is pulled so the defender can catch up. 3/18/2006 12:04:41 PM |

key word is
it's just something that refs have collectively let go over time so all of these games can be closer at the end
a ratings conspiracy, i tell ya
i really don't care, unless it's team i'm pulling for that's blowing the lead because they can't make the resulting free throws 3/18/2006 12:12:34 PM |

also, one of the things that pisses me off about international basketball is that the following is not an intentional foul

which sucks because it takes away from the run & gun game that USA plays
those euros must do that shit five times per game to stop our fast breaks, i feel like reaching through the screen and punching somebody3/18/2006 12:15:09 PM |

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think a technical results in the fouling team losing possession if it had it.3/18/2006 12:44:55 PM |

if you want to foul off the ball (if time is very low and you want to foul quickly) but dont want to get the intentional, you have to make it look like you accidentally bump into the player...you cant just wrap your arms around him like you could if he had the ball 3/18/2006 12:48:52 PM |
