I know it's just an interview but I doubt he'd flat out lie..

Quote :
""I don't know if I grew up a State fan, I think I grew up an ACC fan."

"Obviously my very first job in college coaching was with one of the great Wolfpack's of all-time, Eddie Biedenbach. Through all that I've always been a fan of NC State, obviously."

"Herb was one of those guys that worked 18 hours a day. Always there, never stopped."

"When Herb stands up to talk you realize that he is the smartest guy in the room, he makes more sense than anybody, and he's the guy that should be in charge."

"I don't think there is a finer coach anywhere. I look around at the job he's done at NC State, I think it's remarkable really."

"I know this, if there was any job open today, if the NC State job was open today, and Herb Sendek was somewhere else, he'd be one of the first people they would call. He's going to do it right, he's going to do it in the way that the players are going to love it, and you have to admire him for the way he goes about his business."

"I'll be quite frank, I don't think it has ever been fair for the way he has been treated. I think he is one of the most underated coaches. I think he has poured everything he's had into the State job, and I don't think they can find a better coach to coach their team than him."

"Yea it really does bother me because if you want me to be quite blunt I've got one of the best jobs in the country. Yea, I grew up in North Carolina but I have no desire to coach in the Atlantic Coast Conference or coach anywhere else other than Texas. It bothers me more, not so much about that, it bothers me more that Herb hasn't been appreciated the way he should be appreciated."

"I was there when he first started. I know what he walked into, I know the problems they were having when he got there, what he did with the program. There's a lot of coaches, a lot of programs that would like to have his resume right now. He's had great success, he's going to continue to have great success, but what bothers me most of all is he deserves more than the way he's being treated."

"I just know there is no finer person and I don't want to see anybody that's been treated the way he's been treated, especially with the kind of job he's done for them."

"They are going to be a hard team to defend, you can't take anytime off."

"It would be better if Herb and I could play one-on-one because we would win if it was up to me and him playing." "

This doesn't need to turn into a Herb argument btw. I figured people who don't go over there would be interested in this..

That said, flame away both sides!

Personally... it sounds like he's being honest.

That said, I doubt he'd just come out and say "OMF PLEASE HIRE ME!".

Could be coach speak, could be serious. We might have to find out one day, becuase I'd guarantee you he'd be one of the first ones we called

Herb won't be fired.

(But for comparison, If Herb was thinking of leaving State and being interviewed before an NCAA game... do you think he'd say before a game "Yeah, I'm looking at other jobs"?. It's an interesting interview, but you really can't put too much stock into it, IMO)

And before I get flamed in this thread, which I will, I already said Barnes wouldn't be my #1.... probably not my top 3)

I know everyone is saying "coachspeak"...but Barnes didn't have to do a fucking dissertation on the situation.

He could have simply said..."Herb's doing a great job there...I don't want to leave Texas...blah blah blah."

That's a pretty long explanation if you ask me.

I doubt Barnes will ever coach here.

All I'm saying is there's such thing as coach speak, and no one has an idea what the real deal is. While I agree that he did go on and on about it, it still doesn't mean if the opportunity arises, that would be the case.

We all remember Roy saying he would retire from Kansas. Situations change, people change, and just becuase someone says something in the media doesn't mean it's completely true.

Like I said, I tend to agree with you brick, but if the time comes, I'm not going to count out the thought that he'd leave. I'm not going to bet he will, either

I've said before I think we missed the boat 5 years ago

If we take it inside like we did against Cal we can beat Texas.

I was impressed with how we tried to take the ball inside last night. We scored more consistently, we didn't get killed on the boards, and it opened up easier 3 point shots.

I wish Herb would continue to do that. Ced is a beast, and you can't win consistently when 50% of your shots are 3 pointers. Last night we actually looked to go inside first and foremost.... which hasn't happened since the Duke game.

We actually crashed the boards last night too. Granted, it seemed like every rebound we had was by Bethel or Grant, but still....much better.

BTW, if we win tomorrow, they will ask Barnes what he thinks. He will say:

"I could give a damn about North Carolina State!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Another thing I loved about last night....

We played the 2-3 zone!

I said after both Wake games... at any given time... at least 2 players on our team are too slow to play man-to-man. They get blown by, the other team runs into the lane, and Cedric picks up a foul trying to block them.

Last night we zoned them up, and we played much much better defense. Granted, we played a little man, but at least we switched it up and kept Cal on thier toes.

Whats weird is that Cal is good inside, and thier perimeter defense is shitty... yet we went inside. Odd to decide to do that against them, of all teams...?

Overall, I liked the gameplan, and if we do the same... we can beat Texas. I said my complaint with Herb is that you can't win if 50% of your shots are 3's. You can get lucky and beat anyone, but you can't be consistent. I pray to God we keep going inside and playing a little zone

Bethel just hustles... hopefully last night gave him a little more confidence in his shot

Oh, and Evtimov pisses me off with his 3 pointers from Raleigh

Also, some of you (and myself) give atsur a hard time, but the kid hustles his ass off. Last night when he dove out of bounds to save that ball, I was screaming for him. That seriously could have sealed the game.

Yeah, but unlike last night...we weren't looking to do that first and foremost. Last night, our kids weren't even looking for the 3 when they came down the court for the most part.... they sent the ball inside and drove it to the basket.

yeah that was a big play, i usually don't have any beef with atsur

but herb seriously needs to sit evtimov, dude is a worthless right now

the only shots he's taking are from 40' and he's too hesitant

plus he still make more stupid passes than good ones

^ To be fair though the ball was never going out of bounds until Atsur spasmed and threw it out of bounds.

Yeah Evtimov should play only to give brackman and McCauley a breather IF and ONLY IF needed. That motherfucker is a sitting duck. He's terrible right now. The only thing he brought to this team was minutes and an outside shot earlier in the season, and now that he's not hitting the 3 ball, he's worthless, just like the 3rd baseman for GT this weekend. WORTHLESS WES for those of you who missed it.

Dude, we didn't even shoot a 3 until there was a good 10 minutes left in the first half. And we were already getting blown out by then.

We shot more 3's in the second half, during our "improvement" half.

Maybe I'm imagining things then. I know we only shot like 16 3's vs. Wake, but for some reason I just didn't think our gameplan was "Give the damn ball to Ced" like it was last night

During our "improvement" half, I think a lot of that was becuase Cam and Grant quit running the offense and started running the court. We were surprisingly really successful once those two got pissed off and taking it amongst themselves to score becuase the rest of the team was sucking ass.

I thought the game plan was much better than weve implemented also...

Ill give it to herb, in that he is able to be humble enough to hear our whines and find within them some truth, that being that he hasnt been "coaching" but instead managing one set plan. Coaching requires changing things up a bit according to how your team is playing.

I think he did that last night, not that it was the best plan for Cal, but the best plan for our team according to how we have been playing. Ced had seven shots in the first half, which is more than he takes most games.

Hopefully our guys can build on that, regain some confidence, and then go back to the way they played at the beginning of the season. If we can do this, we WILL beat texas. And, as I promised, I will not criticize Herb again for the rest of his career here.

Go Pack!!

We're not going to beat Texas

But, watching the game last night, I feel like Herb listened to some of the criticism. For whatever its worth. It was one game, but maybe its a sign of things to come. A loss to Texas wont be so bad, as long as we dont lose because of boneheaded coaching or dumbass decision making (jacking up 3's from half court with 30 left on the shot clock when we're losing...shit like that).

Ced didn't really tear shit up last night. Not sure how many he scored or exactly how many points we had in the paint.

All I know is that the 3's we did take, while not as many...which is a good thing, were much better than the ones we usually do.

I think by at least making the other team respect the inside game of us makes our team click a lot better. The best game we've played this year is still vs. Duke...and the gameplan vs. Duke looked a lot like last night.

If we lose to Texas, yet we take it at their big men and try to at least draw some fouls and pound it inside, you won't hear a peep from me. If we shoot 30 3-pointers and play strictly man defense, I'm gonna be pretty mad.

I thought we did a good job mixing it up vs. Cal. At least make them respect your inside game...and you should start inside then work your way out. We usually try to do it the other way around

To continue the "Coaches for Cancer" thing they really should have coaches play a basketball game and televise it. Would lvoe to see something like ACC coaches vs. Big Ten Coaches.

100% Accurate. Ben played only 2 minutes, and Brackman got his usual 3 fouls in like 5 minutes.
