or if anybody has one I could borrow that'd be great... or has any better/other idea of how to put an old laptop HD in my desktop to get the data off of it. I have to get this done quick, all my notes are on that HD and the test is soon...

you can buy these at tigerdirect, they also sell the USB cable ones which will work just as well.

just go get one for 10-15 bucks

The one I got from TigerDirect was a POS.

It came with a bad power supply and the drive would not stay powered on with it. It would spin down in the middle of copying files after 5 minutes or less.

When I went back to TigerDirect to see if I could exchange it I noticed that some of the items of the same model had been returned too. I didn't bother trying to exchange it for another one - I will just buy one online that has good independent reviews.

There's a computer store on Tryon road that has them, it's somewhere between where the Best Buy is off Tryon, and where that road that intersects Avent Ferry by Hardees runs in to Tryon, in a small shopping center that's across from a gas station (it's on the right side, coming from Cary).

the one i got at tigerdirect had obviously been returned--judging by the floppy disk that was in the box labeled "money account" and all the pics of a child being born that were on it..
