If he only means that we weren't the best team, and just got lucky, I think everyone agrees with that.

You know what?? Skip Bayless can go shove his head in an anthill covered in maple syrup for all I care.

Teams play the regular season to prepare for the tournaments. They jockey for position. The teams that have done well all year get the easier roads, and it is THEIR RESPONSIBILITY to play up to the seeding they are given. It was UNC's responsibility to play like a 3 seed, and their road was easier because of their seeding. So they lost, too bad. Tennessee is another good example of not playing up to the expectations.

Tournaments ultimately show who is the best. If you want to be the best, eventually you have to beat the best. George Mason should be commended for their play, and Skip Bayless is clinically insane.

And ANOTHER thing. For him to have the audacity to say that the 1983 NC State team did NOT deserve the national championship is absolutely rediculous. Had that team not been plagued by injuries, they would have been much better through the regular season. The fact is that we got healthy and hot at the right time, and won every game in BOTH the ACC and NCAA tournaments. That's not luck, that's a great team with a great coach doing the right things at the right time.

Whose expectations???? According to the seed (which was WAY too high and was pretty much the result of having a really really high SOS and pretty high RPI)? Preseason expectations? My expectations? The "experts" who had them losing in the first round expectations?



I just dont see how a team that was picked to finish 5th in their division (not even 5th in the conference) and won it and made it into the tourney can be seen as "not meeting expectations"




oh, and Bayless is a retard for saying that.... I agree that the best team doesnt always win the Championship, hell, most of the time they dont, but that doesnt mean the team that does win it doesnt deserve it.

Herb lover???? how do you get that? NC State is a really good alltime bball school, for 95% of its history Tenn has been shit in bball. The expectations are VERY different. One was a Top 25 team expected to go to the Tourney and do well, the other was predicted to do jack shit.

If anyone gets onto Pearl for this year they are fucking retarded. I went to many many games at UT where there were 2,000 people there in an arena that can hold 25K. He has pulled off a HUGE turn around about 2-3 years ahead of schedule. Not a single UT fan is upset about this year AT ALL.

jaybee, i think you're takin the comment out of context. postseason is a different season from the regular season. they went above and beyond expectations in the regular season, you're right. they earned a 2 seed in the tourney. in the tourney, as a 2 seed, they did not meet expectations. when you put a 2 seed in there, you are anticipating them being one of 2 teams from that bracket left in the elite 8. obviously that doesnt happen often, but thats the idea behind the seeding. when you look at this season now, the whole thing was a huge success for the program. but you're kidding yourself if you dont think earning a 2 seed in the tournament and losing in the 2nd round to wichita st. isnt performing up to expectations.

The problem I have is that everyone says they shouldnt have lost to Wichita State (which I agree with) BUT everyone called it... so its a no win situation, if they lose, its "told you so", but if they win its "well, they were supposed to because they were seeded higher"

thats might be the dumbest non-Phishnlou commet I have ever seen in sports talk... true it wasnt in the tournament so I guess you could say there was less pressure (I assuming thats was the point of mentioning they did not play in a one-and-done situation), BUT, that would be less pressure on BOTH sides, Texas and Tenn. PLUS, it was AT Texas, not a neutral court, and Tenn won by 17, thats a 38 point swing.
