how do I get out of it. I got a letter in the mail and well I'm out of state and really don't want to return to NC just to go to some trial. WTF, B? what's a good excuse to get out of this or is living out of state legit enough. 3/21/2006 8:32:35 PM |

Well, if you want to lie about it (which inevitably you would need to do anyways), you might be able to get out of it by pulling the old "I am currently dating the girl/guy that dumped the prosecuter" gig 3/21/2006 10:03:53 PM |

That's where they got your name - I'm guessing that weaseling out of your civic duty has something to do with proving their information is false.3/22/2006 1:09:56 AM |

I always thought jury duty would be a fun experience to have atleast once... i've would have had it multiple times already, but i've been in my 4 years of undergrad every time they've asked so I was able to get out of it. 3/22/2006 1:19:07 AM |

I just did jury duty about two months ago. I ended up being one of the unlucky ones.
When I got there (8:00am) there were about 100 or so people. A few hours later they called out about 30 people's names. They were the ones that were selected to actually do something. The rest of us thought we would then be excused, but no. At 4:00pm they called out about 30 more names, mine included. These people stayed until 5:00pm. At 5:00pm they just dismissed everyone.
I pretty much sat in a room for 9 hours doing nothing... all day. I wish they would have given a heads up on the waiting nature of jury "service". I would have brought work to do. At least I'm in the clear for the next two years. 3/22/2006 10:37:21 AM |

The sumons that I just recently got had a list on the back of valid reasons to be excused from jury duty... you could always call the county it's for, and ask someone about what your options are... 3/22/2006 12:33:15 PM |

Call the clerk of court and explain your situation and let them know that it would be an undue hardship to appear. 3/22/2006 1:03:21 PM |

Still haven't made an effort? You'll be upset at yourself for wasting more gas money than they pay you if you don't take care of it real soon-like.
