Quote : | "'The Departed' is set in South Boston, where the state police force is waging war on organized crime. Young undercover cop Billy Costigan (Leonardo DiCaprio) is assigned to infiltrate the mob syndicate run by gangland chief Costello (Jack Nicholson). While Billy is quickly gaining Costello's confidence, Colin Sullivan (Matt Damon), a hardened young criminal who has infiltrated the police department as an informer for the syndicate, is rising to a position of power in the Special Investigation Unit. Each man becomes deeply consumed by his double life, gathering information about the plans and counter-plans of the operations he has penetrated. But when it becomes clear to both the gangsters and the police that there¿s a mole in their midst, Billy and Colin are suddenly in danger of being caught and exposed to the enemy -- and each must race to uncover the identity of the other man in time to save himself." |

i just realized that this was a remake from ^ the writing credits. "Cape Fear" was spectacular though i don't know how it compares with the original (with robert mitchum and gregory peck).
has anyone seen this film? i'd like to check it out after the departed comes out to compare the two.
I AM REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS FILM!3/23/2006 8:11:19 AM |

Quote : | "goddamnit what is the hard-on w/ dicaprio and scorcese?? why does he get stuck in ruts with actors?" | Well I suppose dick-riding is always a possibility but it might simply be that he took to DiCaprio because he knows how to get something unique out of him, might be a click between the two.
One French director Jean-Pierre Jeunet has used Dominique Pinon in three of his films so far (Amélie, Alien: Resurrection, and Delicatessen) just off the top of my head.3/23/2006 2:30:27 PM |

you people who are all like "brad pitt jennifer anniston wtf?"
you've just gone on my list of "people who know roughly 'shit' about hollywood"
thanks for playing
ps, when did jack nicholson get attached to this project, it was someone else for the longest time i thought

^ IMDB lists Jennifer Aniston's production credits as:
A Million Little Pieces (2006) (announced) (producer) The Senator's Wife (2006) (announced) (producer) The Time Traveler's Wife (2006) (announced) (producer) The Departed (2006) (post-production) (producer) Running with Scissors (2006) (completed) (producer)
So if you don't know that she has successfully produced two films throughout her entire career (including this one) and plans on producing three more, you know nothing about hollywood?
Am I missing something? cause I don't get it.
Brad Pitt isn't listed as having produced anything before 2006 either.

Vera Farmiga was in a movie called Down to the Bone this year, and she's a fine looking woman. Good actress, too, I guess. 3/23/2006 4:04:41 PM |

DURING THE BRAD/JENNIFER SPLIT, WHICH WAS ONE OF THE BIGGEST EVENTS IN HOLLYWOOD, ONE OF THE MOST CONTENTIOUS PARTS OF THE DIVORCE WAS HOW THEY WERE GOING TO SHARE/SPLIT THE PRODUCTION COMPANY THEY HAD JUST STARTED
WE'RE NOT TALKING MOVIE KNOWLEDGE HERE
WE'RE TALKING "HOLLYWOOD"

if its the number of films they have made together that is botheringyou...i don't hear you complaining about the scorsese/de niro duo that made more than twice as many as scorsese and dicaprio have made so far.
the combination works. "gangs of new york" and "the aviator" were both SPECTACULAR.
scorsese isn't the only one that "gets stuck in ruts with actors".
spielberg/tom hanks hitchcock/jimmy stewart
those are the only two i can think of right now but there are lots more.
its not that hard to imagine why a director would want to work with an actor repeatedly.3/23/2006 7:44:55 PM |

gangs of new york was decent but it didnt seem to be a "scorcese" movie. just seemed to have a diff style. i havent seen aviator yet so i will withhold judgement i guess. it just doesnt seem like leo is right for this role. he still looks like a pretty 18 yr old and he is supposed to play a tough cop who infiltrates the mob?
who knows though i have def been wrong before 3/23/2006 7:50:35 PM |

I think Scorsese brings out a very intense, focused and lonesome quality in Di Caprio that other directors never touched. If you compare The Man in the Iron Mask to The Aviator, you'll see, or Catch Me if you Can to Gangs of New York, again it's obvious. People used to have an image of him being a teen star but Scorsese has really made him into a unique character actor, like DuVal or Al Pacino. 3/23/2006 9:55:09 PM |
