I have always been curious about this too.

It's really not that valuable of information either...

team fouls is important, but usually when they show it (late) they are both in the double bonus anyway...

time outs remaining? i dont really care

possession arrow? WOW.

Brings me to another point. Why do announcer say "the possession arrow penalizes great defense"?

Seems to me that 50% of the time it rewards good defense.

They already tried the "defense always gets the ball" rule before and it was too damn confusing. Most jumpballs are the result of a loose ball and its hard to determine who the "offensive" player really was.

The possession arrow is criticized all the time, despite being a valuable rule.

It's much better than doing a jump ball. All that does is penalize guards (who are usually the ones forcing the jump balls)

this would be a big advantage to ncsu. it seems we always win the jump ball at the beginnings of games.

i believe game reset is just means that relevant info is displayed for the end of the game, not 100%sure though.

I do know that they say great def is penalized b/c of the possession arrow, b/c it either results in the other team getting the ball, or stops a fast break opportunity.

the main reason they implemented the "possession arrow over the jump ball" was to save time..it just makes the game faster..

I guess taking away those damn tv timeouts is too much to ask.

Not necessarily. Because they do the jump ball between the two guys who are tied up. So you could have Engin Atsur against Tyler Hansbrough if that's who got tied up.

No it doesn't. If you never have possession of the ball then how the fuck did you ever have a fast-break opportunity?

I can see where you're coming from (potential fast break if you win the tip), but I don't think that's really a valid reason to change the rule.

when a jump ball is called, both players have poss. at the same time.

That's meaningless. You can't run a fast break while someone else also has control of the ball.

The only way that would be a relevant statement was if you wanted to eliminate the jump ball entirely and let players just fight it out.

Make a new jump ball thread.

In particular, the use of the word "reset" is what I am questioning here. It makes no sense.
