Anybody going to check anything out this year? I'm trying to see if I want to take off work to go check it out this year. Anybody heard anything about the films? I really regret not going last year.

I scored an all-access pass last year and loved it. I'd definitely go again if I still lived in Durham.

I volunteered last year for a day or two and had a free pass. Last year they had Scorsese, some well known Italian director whose name escapes me at the moment, and ric burns (Ken missed his flight or something). Kinda wish I was going this year

from my other thread:

And I know this might be better suited in classifieds, but if anyone has 2 tix to the Asparagus, A Stalkumentary screening for Friday at 12noon at the American Tobacco theatre, I would be interested in buying them from you. PM if you have some. (or if I can rent/borrow your fest passes for 2 hours)

Rachel Boynton's "Our Brand is Crisis" is an excellent film. Not sure what day it is playing, but it is definetly worth a look!

xplosivo i doubt you'll have any trouble getting in if you go buy tickets right now. in my experience these things don't really sell out.

here's some pics from opening night "sketches of frank gehry" and the q&a with director sydney pollack...

Some aspects of the job really really sucked, but I definitely miss working there.

i went most of the day yesterday and went to the al franken movie on friday night.

my favorites:
air guitar nation: very entertaining and funny look at the first usa air guitar championship and then the winner's competition in the world air guitar championships in finland

chances of the world changing: a really beautiful and heartbreaking documentary about a conservationist who spent years of his life caring for endangered turtles. This endeavor takes over his life. The movie catalogs his quest to recapture his life by opening an institute where lots of turtles can live and breed and be researched.

Yeah, any remotely high profile movie not in Fletcher Hall is gonna sell out.

as a volunteer i got into everything i waiting in line for (never longer than 20 mintutes), even though we were ushered in last. some of the shows i got in to were "sold out" but the amount of tickets sold before hand doesnt reflect how many seats are actually available. most of the people at the festival have a some sort of pass, and the venue managers "guess" how many of them will show up at each screening. if theyre not there, then they open up more seats a few minutes before each screening.

out of the dozen or so i saw, my favorites were the trials of darryl hunt, wordplay, and this film is not yet rated. wordplay was absolutley hilarious, great line up of celebrity crossword players (jon steward, bill clinton, mike mussina, etc) and a bizarre crossword championship. darryl hunt was one of the saddest doc's ive ever seen. plus, any lover of commercial and independent feature films would get a kick out of this film is not yet rated. it went into great pains to expose the mpaa's rating system for its questionable practices and bizarre secrecy - the highlight being when he submits the documentary we are watching for a rating and gets back an NC-17 (he has highlight reels of scenes deemed to graphic for an R that had to be cut down in recent commerical films).

I ended up scoring media passes and checked out a couple of flicks. I really liked the Asparagus movie, although, I think I would have edited it a little differently.

Fun time though.
