hey

i just ordered a bunch of parts off newegg for like $1250 on thursday. yesterday, i was about to order a sound card from them, and as i was filling out my info, i had a feeling that i had put in the wrong security code on my card when i made the first order. so, since the order status was still step 1, i decided to cancel the first order and just make a new order with everything. i waited until the site said the first order was successfully voided before placing the second order.

here are their steps for order status:
Quote :
"

Status Legend:

Step 1: Your order has been successfully submitted. Your credit/debit card has not yet been charged. Please allow 1-2 business days for your order to process and ship.

Step 2: Verification and fraud prevention measures are complete. Your credit/debit card has not yet been charged.

Step 3: Your credit/debit card has been successfully charged. Please note that you may no longer make changes to your order.

Step 4: Your order contents will soon be packaged and sealed.

Step 5: Your order has shipped. You may view your tracking information by clicking the applicable "View" link above. However, your tracking number may not appear immediately as the shipping couriers update only periodically. Your tracking number(s) will also be sent via email to your Newegg.com login.

Void: Your order is cancelled. Void orders are null and cannot be re-processed. If you need to re-order as a result, please do so on our website. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us for help."

The first order still has "Void" status, and the second says it's in "Step 1" still. However, I can see where my bank account has been charged for $2500, so obviously I've been charged for both orders.

I sent them an email (service@newegg.com) saying basically what i just posted in this thread, but i have yet to hear anything back. is there anything i can do to make sure i don't get screwed and end up with 2 systems? i mean the order clearly says void.

anyone been in a similar situation or have any other advice?

so you think i'll get a refund for the first order?

i'm mainly worried because they are closed over the weekend so all the stuff might get shipped before they have a chance to cancel it.

You'll find out on monday.

But it seems like it's nothing they can't get straightened out. Worst case scenario is that they charge you to ship the stuff back to them, and you might even be able to talk them out of that.

I think they have a phone number for non-technical sales questions/order support. Call Monday, check on status, and find out if you need to do anything.

it's possible that they just reserved the money on your card. the way a credit card transaction works is that the first "swipe" of the card hits your bank immediately to say "i'm going to be requesting X amount of money from you". the bank/credit card then reserves that money, meaning it looks like it is charged to your account since it is sorta already spent. the money is not actually transfered to newegg until they run their accounts or whatever at the end of the day.

if the company never does the final step, then the bank takes your money out of reserve and back to your account after something like 7 days.

if they had already charged your card and you canceled before it shipped, then they will have to charge the money back to your card. if they had shipped before you canceled, then you'll have to do a return shipment.

or just refuse it if it comes. for things that expensive it'll probably need a signature.

BTTT, I have a situation with Newegg right now myself. My parents had gotten me a new motherboard for Christmas from NewEgg. We couldn't get a video card to run on it until last month. Put everything in and the mobo had a problem with the processor. So I sent the mobo back to Newegg. No problem. Well apparently UPS dragged ass on shipping it (came in days after the date I was quoted) and it just got to Newegg Thursday. Now NewEgg sent out that they had shipped the mobo back. Great!! Just one problem. My parents have moved to another state, and even though I had clearly stated in the package that I sent with my RMA# that it needed to be shipped to a new address (mine) they shipped it to my parents old residence.

So should I call Newegg and tell them they fucked up, or just call UPS and see if they can change the delivery address?? I do have a tracking number and all that jazz, so I'm just curious. Thanks!

If you put the wrong security code (or any of the standard payment info) it would tell you instantly.

the money got released back into my account. thanks to all who commented on the matter. it was what scrager said it probably was. it just took forever b/c after i cancelled it, newegg voided it right away, but my bank was slow in returning the amount to my available balance.

now if i could just get my real order out of the fraud prevention stage. i swear i've never had so much trouble spending money.

If I get something RMA'd, do they pay for the shipping back? Do I have to send it back via UPS?

the bank has nothing to do with getting the money back in your account. once it goes on reserve, it stays there for a set time (probably about 7 days) until it either A) gets claimed by the place that charged your card or B) returns to your account. they don't go in there and manually put it back in your account. it just returns automatically after that set period.

it can get tricky too if you have a company that doesn't claim the money for several weeks. the money will go on reserve, then it will return to your account, then a couple weeks later it will just be gone. if you don't plan for it, it can bite you in the ass.

^ I got a shipping label they want me to attach to the box that has my customer # and my RMA #. Not sure if that entitles me to free shipping.

NewEgg and UPS wouldn't change it. However, the local driver DID change it for me since he goes to my dads office so much. Thank God for hookups like that! However, when I opened the box, the motherboard was the only thing in it, and it wasn't even in the original box, it was in the box for a completely different mobo! What made it worse was that the mobo had NONE of its CDs, driver disks, or cables, manuals, etc. that came with it. I was pissed and called them immediately.

One question though, I had my motherboard sitting next to my computer and hooked everything up to it. Then I put it in the computer and now my computer doesn't display anything on screen when it comes up. The monitor doesn't even go from standby to powered mode. WTF is causing this, or any suggestions on things to look at?? Thanks!
