The problem is that all the IU grads they could get played for Knight, and Knight now has a hatred for Indiana. Loyalty has always been a big thing for that family, and I wasn't sure if anyone would break out of the fold to take the job if it was offered.

I guess they weren't even willing to take the risk.

alford was on the hot seat a couple yrs back at iowa and still hasn't done anything in the ncaas

he wasn't good enough for indiana

Iowa finished tied for 2nd in the Big 10 this year and then won the conference tourney.

Can't argue the NCAA thing, but I like the way his teams play. They're a lot like an old-school Bob Knight team in terms of hard defense and good, high-percentage offense.

To Sampson's credit, he does have 3 Big 12 titles, a Elite 8 finish and a trip to the Final Four. IU could have done a lot worse, like hired Herb Sendek.
