big time alumni are sick of herb. when you graduate you might feel the same way. I have no imput either way but look at a forwarded email to me from one of the top 10 in the wolfpack club. This proves they don't support him or at least this guy doesnt.

Mr. Chancellor,
I have previously written you a letter in the mail and got back what I
considered to be a non-personal response. But that is apparently par for the
course at North Carolina State. Mr. Lee Fowler has done that same thing before
to a number of Wolfpackers.

Mr. Chancellor, as a member of the New Hanover County Board of Education, it
scares me to think we would ever govern our schools the same way N.C. State's
administration oversees athletics. For the man in the sticks, the average
Wolfpack alum, it is TOTALLY EMBARASSING to wear any Wolfpack paraphanelia out
in public anymore. WE ARE THE LAUGHING STOCK OF THE ATLANTIC COAST CONFERENCE!

The Wolfpack Club has built the finest facilities in the nation. Wolfpack
supporters have traditionally been the most loyal fans in the ACC. We have
given out of our pockets more than we sometimes could actually afford. But what
have we gotten for that support? Lip service. And in the process, we have been
held hostage by having to make minimum contributions beside purchasing lifetime
seating rights.

Lee Fowler has been a dismal failure as athletic director. Facilities alone
can't produce excellence. It's people who do that. Coaches do that! Mr.
Chancellor, IF WE CAN'T COMPETE FOR THE HIGHEST HONORS IN THE ATLANTIC COAST
CONFERENCE, THEN WE NEED TO GET OUT OF NCAA COMPETITON. OUR ATHLETIC PROGRAM
WAS RATED NUMBER 52 IN THE COUNTRY LAST YEAR.

We haven't won an ACC championship in football or basketball since 1979
(football) (basketball, 1987). Coach Herb Sendek's record in the ACC isn't
even mediocre during regular-season play (72-88) and against Wake Forest, Duke
and North Carolina, its 16-51, 8-38 against Duke and Carolina.

Making the NCAA tournament isn't a milestone by any stretch of the imagination.
Mr. Sendek cannot take NC State to the next level.

A search committee should be formed (without Lee Fowler on it) to go out and to
get a top-level coach who can win like Coach K and Roy Williams and also do the
other things that those coaches do -- recruit fairly and graduate players. Mr.
Sendek needs to resign immediately. We have given him everything to produce a
quality program and he has not delivered in a decade of time.

The Wolfpack Club money is going to DRY UP! I can't believe I'm having to write
this kind of letter. And to set the record straight, the hypocritical faculty
senate which voted to endorse Mr. Sendek, failed to offer support for the
school of veterinary medicine when it was being built.

Mr. Chancellor, you are the ONLY PERSON AT NC STATE WHO CAN DO SOMETHING ABOUT
THIS. DON'T COUNT ON LEE FOWLER, DON'T ON THE WOLFPACK CLUB AND I DOUBT IF YOU
CAN COUNT ON THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES.

The ball is in your court.

You ought to give Wolfpack nation hope before they totally lose all hope.

Cordially,

It's got to be written by some of the students in the New Hanover County School System.... He needs to have an english teacher read over it before it's sent....

lol

every one of the replies in here deals with the poor grammar or how 'pointless' the letter is in the first place

it won't be pointless if the majority of the upper wolfpack clubbers do, in fact, stop the cashflow

things could get really interesting and/or scary in a hurry - i mean, we're one of the top alumni supported schools in the country, and we're still mediocre at both of the revenue sports that really matter? imagine where we'd be w/o the money, in terms of recruiting and whatever else

it really doesnt matter what this guy, or any other alumni think. they dont run the sports program. some think that if they withhold money contributions that it will cause a change. probably not.

nc state is currently has one of the most profitable basketball programs in the country. (http://www.brentroad.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=389636) even without the support of some of the biggest donars, the program can still survive and remain profitable.

okay, poor word selection, because we certainly aren't averbut we're definitely not 'moderate to inferior in quality' - but we aren't in the uppermost echelon either, which is what this crazed-enough-to-the-point-of-writing-this-letter old guy obviously wants - and if his sentiment is shared by many others, that's what i'm saying could be cause for concern

we're the laughing stock of the acc?
how many teams in the acc didn't make it to the ncaa tournament this year?
how many teams in the acc didn't go to a bowl?

we went to a bowl, AND we made it to the ncaa... only one other program in the acc can claim that this year...

in other words, stfu

It is George Cox. Here was a letter he wrote to the N&O:
Quote :
"It's time for NCSU to respect its legacy

How long must supporters of N.C. State's rich basketball tradition be kept on hold by a small click of administrators who accept mediocrity on the court as the image which has been portrayed since Jim Valvano's departure?

The national championships in 1974 and 1983 are just a blur in Wolfpack memories, and the younger generation cannot possibly relate to those accomplishments.

Les Robinson was mediocre, and so is Herb Sendek. Where are their blue-chip student-athletes? Not in the NBA. Sendek is a fine gentleman, but has he recruited head-to-head with North Carolina, Duke or Wake Forest?

Everett Case, the father of ACC basketball who brought the big-time collegiate game to Raleigh in the late 1940s, would surely turn over in his grave to see the state of the current program.

Lee Fowler, the athletics director, has done a great job building state-of-the-art Wolfpack athletics facilities. But it's coaches who build great programs. I'll bet a coach like Rick Barnes could turn things around in short order just the way Roy Williams has at UNC and Skip Prosser has at Wake Forest.

Wolfpack supporters have long been the laughing stock of other Big Four schools since Valvano's departure. I'd suggest we drop Division I basketball unless we properly live up to the legacy set by Case, Norm Sloan and Jim Valvano.

George Cox

I agree we are a laughing stock to the rest of the nation, but not for finishing 22-10 while 10-6 in the ACC, with a second round loss to 2 seeded Texas in the NCAA. No we are laughing stock because of idiots like you who are trying to throw a decent coach under the bus. People across the nation outside of the Wolfpack fan base are scratching their heads as to why.

Though maybe you are getting laughed at in Wilmington, but most likely by UNC fans who know how to press your buttons because you allow yourself to be so easily ridiculed. Because I doubt the Maryland or Wake Forest fans or laughing at you since they didn’t even get into the NCAA tourney or even come close to have a season like Herb’s, or even UConn fans after State had bounced them out of the tournament last year. In fact I am willing to bet that there are very few fans outside of the triangle schools fan base that really give a damn about the so called plight of the Wolfpack fan. I would even go further to say most of the Dook or UNC fans don’t really find our programs to be that much of a joke other than the fact it so easy to rile Pack fans up about it.

He should be bitching a lot more about Chuck first of all. All arguments about herb should stop at our crappy football coach. Secondly, in that letter he says we havent won an ACC title since 1979 in football and basketball, and then in the same sentence he goes on to say that the last Bball title was in 87. CLearly a moron. I need his sentences to express non paradoxical thoughts.

^I am among said contingent. I am a little miffed by the notion that a 22-10 season gets you booted. I agree that the offense needs to change in order to get to the next level, but firing him after 22-10 is a little like Nebraska showing Solich the door after going 9-3....

The only way they would get penalized is if the players who left early did NOT finish the semester up. If they leave in good standing then it's fine from what I understand..

V it's the same rules for EVERY school including NC State..

Well, shorthand version is that NC State has loftier expectations and a history for basketball whereas we're a perennial doormat in football.... Chuck's had less time, yet it takes much longer to build a football program.... and what?.. 5 bowls in 6 years (Even with more bowls these days) is a feat I doubt has been matched at NC State.
