He is a golden retriever mix. We aren't sure what he is mixed with, but if you didn't know he was mixed, you would think he was full-blooded golden retriever. He is around 9 months old, according to the vet. We rescued him from the woods beside our house. He had an injured foot and we took him to the vet to get it fixed. He's healthy now. We are taking him this week to get neutered and to get all of his shots and a check-up. He will be available sometime late this week or early next week. I dont have any pictures of him because I don't have a digital camera, but he looks just like this:

Maybe you should put up signs for a found dog. If he's in that good of a condition, he may be someone's pet. 3/29/2006 7:45:00 PM |

If we had a bigger place I'd take him as I have a female golden mix who loves to play with other dogs... Our apartment is really too small or what we have now otherwise, I'd be interested..

we just found out from a friend that works closely with golden retrievers in her work that she THINKS he is mixed with Saint Bernard. Therefore, you are possibly looking at a pretty large dog when he gets full size. We are still asking around the neighborhood to see if he belongs to anyone and I have had 3 people PM me about adopting him. The person who PMed me first is coming to meet him tomorrow. 3/29/2006 10:29:22 PM |

I was in pizza hut (on western) yesterday and there was a sign for a lost dog with a pic that looked a lot like this one. But I think it was for a dog named cassidy, which obviously wouldn't be the same dog, but I'm not sure.
I agree, you should look for the owner, esp. if your house is near the Western blvd. area. 3/30/2006 11:41:15 AM |

Make sure the vet checks for a microchip. Where do you live? Think about if this were your pet. You are doing a very nice thing taking him in and to the vet & trying to rehome him but I think you should wait at least 2 weeks to make sure an owner doesn't claim him. Please read this whole page to make sure you have done everything you can. Some little kid could be crying himself to sleep missing his/her dog.

K...update:
As far as the whole adpotion thing goes, I have two potential takers. One is letting me know by Monday and the other gets a chance to come and meet him and all if #1 bails out.
As far as the finding an owner situation: I found him. I literally went all the way up the street I live (my street is about 7 miles long) and went door to door to find out if anyone knew who this dog belonged to. I had knocked on around 20 or so doors when a nice little lady told me that the people across the street had a dog that fit that description. I went across the street to these people's house and a lady answered the door. She told me in few words that yes it was there dog and that it had gotten "kicked out" of the house and basically thrown out on the street because it shit on the floor and the husband didnt like it. He said that either the dog was leaving or he was going to shoot it. He threw him out of the house (literally) and started throwing things at him (which could explain his hurt leg). The dog left and I guess had been wandering around the neighborhood for about 2 weeks when I found him. I was standing there in disbelief that 1) this happened and 2) she actually told me this happened. Anyway, needless to say, I called my vet who called some animal rights people and supossedly these people may get in trouble. The vet said that since the dog was legally given up and abandoned that the dog belongs to me now and I am allowed to find him a good home...so there ya go. 3/30/2006 11:01:25 PM |

The dog wasn't "legally" given up
they abandoned it, and to make it worse, the fuckstain who "kicked the dog out" abused it
that's illegal as hell, and you need to call the ASPCA
and I would take him in a heartbeat if I didn't have a sort of small (for a dog) apartment

There was this fucker in sunset beach once that put a bunch of dogs in a dumpster, poured gas on them, and set them on fire.

okay, said dog is back...the girl couldn't keep him due to landlord issues. He has been neutered, has his rabies shot and his first distemper shot, but needs his distemper booster shot. He was tested for heartworms (negative) and has been dewormed. I cannot keep him because my landlord doesn't want us to have a dog. He has to find a new home asap. Someone please adopt him! 4/25/2006 2:14:39 AM |

How big is he right now? If my foster pup can get a new home really soon I may be able to take him in as a foster since you're not allowed dogs. Depends on his size though. You said he may be really big fullgrown, and I'm guessing he's close to full now. 4/25/2006 11:44:35 AM |

He's a big boy, but he's basically full grown, according to the vet. If he grows anymore, it shouldn't be more than 5 pounds. When I took him to the vet a couple of weeks ago, he weighed 79 pounds. 4/25/2006 1:01:12 PM |

if you live in Raleigh, Cary, or Garner you can take him to the SPCA intake facility in Garner
its not no-kill but they send all adoptable animals to the adoption facilty (space pending). so as long as they're not totally full and he passes the temperment tests he has a good chance of going there. but there is no guarantee and they cant tell you if he goes or not.
try contacting more rescue groups in the area. 4/26/2006 12:00:19 PM |
