I've really gotten into lifting and using the gym this semester, but unfortunately this is my last semester here and I won't be able to use NCSU's gym anymore...
Anybody in the Charlotte area have any good experiences with places or can offer any advice?
If you know the price for membership that would be good too.

siskey ymca - southeast charlotte / matthews area
$0 - $75 joining fee for a single person. It depends on the specials they are running. After the joining fee it is $50 / month. I think that is for all YMCA's in the Charotte Metro, b/c my card let's me into the YMCA on Harris after work too since I work up there. 3/29/2006 6:36:12 PM |

There are too many brances of the Y in Charlotte for you not to be able to join it. The Harris Y is freaking huge and scored the highest overall of the Charlotte gyms (don't have link available offhand). Not as big as NCSU's, but they have almost one of everything.
There's a smaller shop in South Charlotte I used to go to when I used to do just weights called "Body Builders". Month-to-month for $30 at the time ... think it's shot up to $50 since then. Used to be off Carmel but they've relocated to somewhere on 51 I think. 3/29/2006 7:10:40 PM |

yea i was leaning towards the Y, I was just wondering if any other places were around that maybe had better deals but weren't shitholes. I'll probably just end up joining the Harris Y since it's closest to where I'll be 3/29/2006 7:21:23 PM |

^^^ i like peak as well.... it is only open till 5 or so on saturdays and sundays, but as said above, its open 24 hours all week.... as far as price, just ask what they are offering.... get it even cheaper if you pay all upfront instead of monthly 3/30/2006 10:22:40 AM |

you can do $30 month to month or soemthing like 20 bucks a month with a contract at Peak.
I hit the ymca here in Noda, but you can't go wrong with a metro membership at the ymca $49 a month with like 20 diff facilities. 3/30/2006 1:34:48 PM |

Southpark isn't close to Harris Y at all ...... and the Harris Y is not that big. I think you have it confused with another branch of the Y. The uptown Y and the Siskey Y are both closer to southpark than the Harris Y.3/30/2006 5:43:59 PM |

I think the Dowd YMCA off Morehead is the biggest Y in Charlotte, that's the one I go to. They have a ton of stuff, dedicated bike room for spin/cycle classes, tons of cardio, a separate floor with just cardio, a floor with two sets of circuits, multiple gyms, etc. 4/1/2006 8:43:09 AM |
