Is there any reason NOT to just go in on a 66 in 45 ticket and ask da for reduction to 9 over
And

Has anyone else been given a verbal warning that driving while in neutral/coasting is illegal?

Most of the time they won't drop it to 9 over if you are going 16+ over the limit. A Greenville A-DA told me that she was not allowed to do it at all. Don't know about around here though.

I mean, you could still try and if they say no just ask the judge for a continuance and hire a lawyer.

1. Go to the student legal services office and ask them, it's free anyway.

2. The Kelly Law Firm (919) 846-6919
Tell him you got his name from student leagal services, and he should give you a discount.

You can get one ticket for 9 over every three years without your insurance going up. It's not a bad deal for people that can stay out of trouble for three years after getting one.

damn traffic cops. I think if your coasting downhill, they shouldn't ticket you as long as your doing a reasonable speed, but I don't make the laws. Besides, wasted momentum is wasted energy in turn decreases your gas milage.

That doesn't necessarily apply. In January I got 53 in a 35 reduced to 9 over. No lawyer, no arguing, no haggling, walked up to the counter and the ADA offered that without my having to say a word. I'd say just take the morning off, go in for your court date, and ask nicely. If they won't budge, get a continuance and a lawyer.

sorry, officer.. i'm a cheap bastard and i wanted to save my $0.005 worth of gas by conserving momentum..

edit:
besides, if you "coast" in gear & off throttle, you'll probably save more gas... and, in most cases, you wont be speeding

^hey, if you think of it, a little bit goes a lot once you get keep doing over a period of time with the number of people doing it increases... But still, speeding is speeding in the eyes of cops.

Last I checked Wake County does not allow you to drop a speeding ticket to improper equipment, and you have to try for the 9 over or use your prayer for judgement.

I drive a stick, so if the foot is off the gas, the other foot stays on the clutch, or it goes into neutral. I have never seen anyone with a manual coast without putting it in neutral and or popping the clutch

^^ just because you have never seen it doesnt mean you cant do it.

its not exactly "coasting"... but it will keep your speed down and allows you to be lazy.

Then congratulations, you're doing a silly thing.

You're putting more wear on your drivetrain and getting worse gas mileage as a result.

so keeping the clutch down or the transmission in neutral any time i am slowing down, or any time i am going down a series of downgrades puts more wear and tear on the drivetrain than keeping it in gear?
