By Fanball Staff With the free agency dust settling, teams are sending scouts across the country for pro days and entertaining select candidates for private workouts in hopes of filling their remaining needs via the NFL draft. Here's an updated look at how Draft Day 2006 could shake down. Taking those changes into account, here's an updated and revised look at what Draft Day 2006 could look like. 1. Houston Texans Reggie Bush, RB, USC Our Last Mock: Bush What's Changed: Nothing. If the Texans are shopping this pick, they're keeping it on the down low. And while they're working out the likes of Vince Young and Matt Leinart, all signs point towards Bush. Also Considered: Leinart Trade Possibilities: None… at the moment. 2. New Orleans Saints D'Brickashaw Ferguson, T, Virginia Our Last Mock: Ferguson What's Changed: Very little. The Saints still have offensive line issues due to the loss of center LeCharles Bentley and the release of guard Kendyl Jacox. After selecting right tackle Jammal Brown last year, the Saints would have a pair of bookend tackles for years to come if they add Ferguson. Also Considered: Matt Leinart, Vince Young, Mario Williams Trade Possibilities: With Drew Brees under contract, odds are in favor of the Saints trading down if they can find a team that wants to beat the Titans to Leinart. 3. Tennessee Titans Matt Leinart, QB, USC Our Last Mock: Leinart What's Changed: Nothing, although Vince Young's pro day at least threw his hat back in the ring for this pick. Also Considered: Young Trade Possibilities: None, but the Titans haven't been shy about moving around on draft day so don't be surprised if something does happen. 4. New York Jets Mario Williams, DE, North Carolina Our Last Mock: Williams What's Changed: The Jets still need a player who can replace the pass rushing ability they lost when John Abraham was shipped out of Gotham, and Williams has emerged as the best defensive player in this year's class. Also Considered: Jay Cutler, A.J. Hawk Trade Possibilities: The Abraham trade gave the Jets some more pieces to play with if they want to move up ahead of the Titans and grab Leinart. 5. Green Bay Packers A.J. Hawk, LB, Ohio State Our Last Mock: Hawk What's Changed: The Packers haven't done much to address their weak linebacking corps in free agency, so Hawk remains the best possible pick for them here. Also Considered: Michael Huff Trade Possibilities: If any team wants to jump up to this slot, the Packers will listen because general manager Ted Thompson is a fan of stockpiling picks. 6. San Francisco 49ers Vernon Davis, TE, Maryland Our Last Mock: Michael Huff What's Changed: Huff remains a possibility, but team officials are desperate to find offensive playmakers who can help 2005 first overall pick Alex Smith produce better numbers. Also Considered: Huff, Jimmy Williams Trade Possibilities: Trading down would be a wise move for the Niners given the abundance of holes they need to fill. They could very easily use this pick to acquire a defensive player if they buy into starting tight end Eric Johnson's claim that he is 100 percent healthy. 7. Oakland Raiders Vince Young, QB, Texas Our Last Mock: Young What's Changed: Aaron Brooks is now a member of Raider Nation, but he isn't a long-term solution. Heck, he may not even be a very good short-term one. Andrew Walter was the team's third-round pick last season, but Young's potential makes him Oakland's quarterback of the future. Also Considered: Haloti Ngata, Michael Huff, Jimmy Williams Trade Possibilities: None 8. Buffalo Bills Haloti Ngata, DT, Oregon Our Last Mock: Ngata What's Changed: Nothing as far as the pick goes, but it sounds as if Ngata's stock may be slipping while Brodrick Bunkley's is rising, so there's a chance the Bills go that way. Also Considered: Bunkley Trade Possibilities: None 9. Detroit Lions Michael Huff, S, Texas Our Last Mock: Jimmy Williams What's Changed: The Lions need to address their weak secondary and in this mock Huff fell to them. If Huff wasn't available, Williams may well have been their selection once again. Also Considered: Williams, Jay Cutler Trade Possibilities: None 10. Arizona Cardinals Winston Justice, T, USC Our Last Mock: Justice What's Changed: The Cards have a premier running back in Edgerrin James and a fragile, aging quarterback, yet they have one of the worst offensive lines in the game. In other words, nothing has changed since last week. Also Considered: Ernie Sims, Jay Cutler Trade Possibilities: The Rams, who pick next, have Orlando Pace and Alex Barron locked in as starting tackles, so the Cards might be able to move down a spot or two and still get their man. 11. St. Louis Rams Jay Cutler, QB, Vanderbilt Our Last Mock: Davis What's Changed: With Davis off the board, new Rams head coach Scott Linehan won't be able to resist the temptation to break in his own young quarterback. Remember, Marc Bulger's shoulder is even more delicate than the relationship between the Shiites and Sunnis in Iraq. Also Considered: Ashton Youboty, Jimmy Williams Trade Possibilities: If Linehan feels good confident in Bulger's shoulder, he could trade this pick to a team that wants Cutler. 12. Cleveland Browns Kamerion Wimbley, DE, Florida State Our Last Mock: Tamba Hali What's Changed: Hali's stock has dropped of late, while Wimbley's is on the rise. The Browns aren't quite as desperate for a pass rusher after signing Willie McGinest as a free agent, but they could still use some help on the front line. Also Considered: Hali Trade Possibilities: None 13. Baltimore Ravens Brodrick Bunkley, DT, Florida State Our Last Mock: Bunkley What's Changed: The Ravens haven't done much to patch up a defensive line ravaged by free agency, so Buckley still makes the most sense. Also Considered: White… because they don't have nearly enough big backs in the mix already. There's also talk if one of the quarterbacks slides here Brian Billick won't be able to help himself. Trade Possibilities: None 14. Philadelphia Eagles LenDale White, RB, USC Our Last Mock: White What's Changed: White remains the pick due to the Eagles penchant for having a one-two punch in the backfield. Brian Westbrook will take the bulk of the carries, leaving LenDale to play the short-yardage role he played for Reggie Bush at USC. Also Considered: Chad Jackson, Santino Holmes Trade Possibilities: Andy Reid is never afraid to move down a few spots if it means stockpiling draft picks. 15. Denver Broncos (from Atlanta Falcons) Chad Jackson, WR, Florida Our Last Mock: D. Jackson What's Changed: Unless Rod Smith meets up with Ponce de Leon at the Fountain of Youth, his time in the league is running short. The Broncos would be wise to add another wideout who can navigate the middle of the field. That fact he runs a 4.3 in the 40 won't hurt his stock either. Also Considered: Santino Holmes, Leonard Pope, Tamba Hali Trade Possibilities: The Broncos still have a pair of first-round picks to play with, so they can move up in the round if they want to target a player in the top-10. 16. Miami Dolphins Chad Greenway, LB, Iowa Our Last Mock: Ernie Sims What's Changed: We had the Dolphins taking Sims last time, but Greenway may be a better fit for their needs. With Junior Seau gone and Zach Thomas not getting any younger, this would be the time for the Fins to find an heir apparent. Also Considered: Sims Trade Possibilities: None 17. Minnesota Vikings Ernie Sims, LB, Florida Our Last Mock: Cutler What's Changed: With the Vandy signal caller going to the Rams, the Vikings are forced to address a major need at linebacker. Doesn't it seem like this team has had linebacker problems for at least a decade? Also Considered: Tye Hill, Ko Simpson, Santino Holmes, Sinorice Moss Trade Possibilities: The Vikings could trade up to put themselves in position to acquire one of the big three quarterbacks. Then again, they could trade down and replenish their receiving corps after losing Randy Moss last year and presumably Nate Burleson this year. 18. Dallas Cowboys Bobby Carpenter, LB, Ohio State Our Last Mock: C. Jackson What's Changed: There's still speculation that the Lone Stars will be gunning for Chad Jackson. However, they've signed Terrell Owens and Terry Glenn to big contracts recently, and they have linebacker issues due to the retirement of Dat Nguyen. Also Considered: Jimmy Williams, Ko Simpson Trade Possibilities: None. 19. San Diego Chargers Jimmy Williams, CB, Virginia Tech Our Last Mock: Santino Holmes What's Changed: Williams experienced a bit of a free fall on mock draft day, but the Chargers will be there to catch him. He could beat out Drayton Florence and Sammy Davis to start as a rookie. Also Considered: Holmes, Sinorice Moss Trade Possibilities: None 20. Kansas City Chiefs Ashton Youboty, CB, Ohio State Our Last Mock: Youboty What's Changed: Zip. Cincinnati Bengals Leonard Pope, TE, Georgia Our Last Mock: Marcedes Lewis, TE What's Changed: Pope didn't slip this far in our last mock; it appears that some of the tight ends are sliding down the board, and Cincy won't hesitate to snap up Leonard if he remains at 24. Also Considered: Lewis Trade Possibilities: None 25. New York Giants Santino Holmes, WR, Ohio State Our Last Mock: DeMeco Ryans What's Changed: Holmes dropped and the Giants couldn't resist. Williams would be an excellent apprentice for the aging Martin. Also Considered: Mathias Kiwanuka, DE, Boston College, Maroney, Moss Trade Possibilities: The Jets have five picks in the first day of the draft, so they could use some of them to move around in the first round and acquire another player they covet.
