The other day I got direct TV installed at the apartment I live in and its great. However the only way they could install it without drilling holes in the walls was to have the dish on the porch and the cords coming through the glass door.

With it like this I can't close my glass door. The technician who installed it said if I got "Flat Coax Cable" I would be able to fix this problem. However, now, I can't find it anywhere. Anyone know where I can find flat coaxial cable?

Thanks

I think this is what the tech meant, it's only $5 and I think some stores may have it locally like radioshack or bestbuy or circuit city, otherwise you can get it from buy.com...

I was trying to find a spacer for the door. You can't be the first apartment dweller to have this problem.

As long as you aren't on the first floor, I would try somehting like this. You should be able to find a long piece to apply the idea to the door if there is no window to use.

There are a ton of flat cables pretty cheap on ebay as well.

Or you might want to give a shot of cutting up a small piece of cable. I spliced my antenna cable in my old car when someone tore off the antenna. You can see how the coax is put together if you look on google I'm sure. Essentially I cut the braided shielding and the insulator away from the solid core. I joined the two pieces together with solder. For you I would reccomend stripping away a section of the outer jacket. Cut the braided shielding in the middle and peel it back. Then strip away the insulator from the solid core. Now cut down the length of the shielding. Twist the shielding into what looks to be a single wire. Joine the two pieces of shielding together. Wrap each in electrical tape and give it a whirl.

It will probably make it look like shit, but is cheap and can't hurt. Just try on a small piece and get some couplers, don't cut into a 50' section. Worse case, go to plan B with the wood. If all else fails ebay will save you.

jesus....

http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?sofocus=bs&sbrftog=1&from=R10&satitle=flat+coax&sacat=-1%26catref%3DC6&bs=Search&sargn=-1%26saslc%3D2&sadis=200&fpos=27610&dfs=20060302&dfts=-1&dfe=20060302&dfte=-1&sabdlo=&sabdhi=&saprclo=&saprchi=&fsop=1&fsoo=1

flat coaxes ranging from $3 to $11 shipped. you'll spend more than $3 in gas and supplies going
to lowes, then you have to have a drill and drill bits, insulation, fittings, and you still have the security
risk. you could just get the flat coax shipped straight to your door.

i mean the fucking thing is $6 at best buy. why are you going the hard way with this?

6 at Best buy?? really cause I went to the one in cary and the one by my house in Pensacola, not carried anymore.

I ended up getting a doggie door (that I needed anyways and the cables fit around it easily, but gephelps post gave me the idea, which again Thanks!

I don't really have the security issue as I have a 2nd floor screened in porch where the dish is sitting.
