picnic at a park or somewhere like duke gardens or the NC botanical gardens there's a drive-in movie theatre in north durham (NOT the ghetto. just the country. TRUST me). go to a non-lame historical site like the NC History Museum or Old Salem camping IS fun, especially when you bring beer maybe a random art thing, like pottery? there's a place on Franklin St. called Paint The Earth where they have premade pots and coffee mugs and toothbrush holders (e.g. random crap) that you can paint and you pick it up a week later. It's not too expensive (like ~$4 for a huge coffee mug, then $7/hour per person for studio time & materials. You probably won't need more than an hour anyways). Go out for breakfast! Or better yet, go on a little road trip to some random place like Pittsboro and go to antique places and a good local restaurant OR for breakfast/lunch, go to a really nice restaurant when it's cheaper!
good luck! 4/7/2006 12:45:45 AM |

If you're talking about a first date then don't make it a date. Let her tag along with you to do something you would be doing anyway. For example, study on a laptop at a coffee shop, then give her a call and tell her to have a cup of coffee with you. When she arrives, continue to work on your laptop and let her sit there for about five minutes. Then begin the date. These kind of dates convey that you are the prize, not vice versa. She will chase you.
Even better, invite her out to drinks. Then don't tell her that your personal friends will be there as well. She will think you're on the fence about her and that she has to prove herself to you. This is a very effective technique.
I have a friend who brings his first dates to kickboxing workouts. He lets her hold the sandbag. He then proceeds to kick the shit out of it. It amps her emotions up. He then lets her kick the bag. He says it's amazing to see these petite cheeleader types getting so aggressive. He usually ends up making out with them or fingering them in his car.
Formal first dates are for tools.

^ wow. that's an interesting approach.
If you've known the girl awhile then a semi-formal date would be great. It really depends on what you want out of it. If it's just sex or 'fingering', then that's not a good approach. If you intend on pursuing this person as a potential girlfriend, then you want to act a little more proper. It's hard for girls in college to find guys that will take them on dates without the intention of just getting laid. 4/8/2006 9:41:58 PM |

katiencbabe is probably a nice, chill person. Her intentions are good. Unfortunately, her advice is bad.
Her advice is based on the idea that men are more sexual than women. This is a myth promulgated by Oprah-types. Women enjoy sex much more than men. They think about just as much as men—maybe a little less. Unfortunately, if a girl makes out with a guy after the first date, then it assumed the guy took advantage of her or she was easy. If a guy knows what he’s doing, a girl will gleefully make out with him after thirty minutes. She will usually fuck him 6 hours after the initial meeting—give or take.
For a woman to do this, everything needs to be natural. The first physical contact needs to seem natural—something as small as thumb-wrestling will do. The first kiss needs to seem natural. The lead-up to sex needs to seem natural.
A girl wants to feel like she is chasing the guy. She might not admit it outright, but she wants a guy to fret over. She wants the unpredictability. While she may appreciate a picnic or whatever, she ultimately thinks it’s boring and contrived. She may think it’s romantic, but it does nothing to stir her emotions. A girl craves emotional spikes.
Here’s the cheapest date I’ve ever been on. It’s probably the most romantic as well. Early one evening, I chatted up a random girl on campus. We chatted for about fifteen minutes, then I talked her into going on an insta-date to a coffee shop on Hillsborough St. We conversed for about an hour and really connected. On the way back to campus, we stopped in a courtyard and kissed. Her exact words with eyes beaming were: “I cannot believe I just met you…like an hour ago.” I can guarantee you that out of any date she will ever go on, that will be the most memorable. It spiked her emotions. It seemed like it was destiny—totally natural. Three evenings later we were 69ing on my sofa.
Everything should seem natural. You should not go out of your way to go on a date with her. She will respect you more. She may not think it’s romantic in traditional sense, but deep down it’s what she emotionally craves.

^LOL.
Right, it's so much better to be like "OMG! I'M GOING TO SHOW YOU WHAT A COOL, CARING GUY I AM BY TAKING YOU TO THE ART MUSEUM!!!1 I WILL EVEN PAY YOUR ADMISSION AND MAYBE BUY YOU LUNCH!!! THAT WAY YOU KNOW I'M TRYING TO BUY YOUR AFFECTION!"
The point of the kickboxing date is to get the girl's emotions amped. It obviously works. I've asked two girls what they thought of it, and they were like, "I loved it! It was sooo fun." Here's a tip: if a girl says that, then it's a good date idea.
Deep down girls are aggressive--at least sexually speaking. They love drama and mock-fighting. The kickboxing date incorporates all those things as subtexts, which is why it works so well.
The only reason why I don't try it is because well...I'm laughably weak.

On Sunday nights at the Elk Lodge on Lead Mine Rd there's swing dancing at 7pm, if you two have never danced before or have danced very little there's a group lesson included in the fee at 6pm. It's a lot of fun, great music, nice people. 4/9/2006 3:19:27 PM |

Movies usually suck as first dates because you can't really talk to the person. DVDs work out a lot better, especially if it's a movie you've both seen before and can talk about it while it's playing.
The best dates just involve getting to know the person, anyway. And alcohol makes everything funnier. 4/9/2006 3:58:38 PM |
