Quote : | "I will soon post photographs of a "demonstration" (read: violent disruption) of Nick Lampson's news conference this morning in Sugar Land. Tom DeLay's campaign and a member of the State Republican Executive Committee called for volunteers to meet on the first floor of the parking garage and "wreck" Lampson's press conference. One elderly Democratic woman was slightly injured when she was assaulted by a DeLay protester. The male DeLay supporter first hit her in the face with a sign and then grabbed her hat and tried to pull it down over her eyes. Think about this: Your Congressman asked his supporters to go out and assault old women. Okay, "wreck" them. But, that's all right because one of the Democrats shoved the DeLay protestor away from the elderly woman. We ain't doing non-violent protests when it comes to protecting our elderly. " |

Please get folks to call our campaign office 281.343.1333 and let us know they can do it – or e-mail Leonard Cash (in the cc field above) so that we can get some head count. Let’s give Lampson a parting shot that wrecks his press conference." |

I agree. they didn't tell them to go out and assault people. Nonetheless, they DID tell them to go out and wreck a press conference, and this is one person's way of doing that. What kind of politician tells people to do such a thing? 4/7/2006 12:02:28 PM |

You're being way too histrionic.
This is like blaming a musician on stage for injuries in the crowd's mosh-pit. 4/7/2006 12:06:02 PM |

i'm not blaming them for the assault. personal responsibility is a factor in that. i'm blaming them for giving people the orders to "wreck" the press conference.4/7/2006 12:07:02 PM |

This is a little bit different, this is more like the musician saying, "hey look at that car, let's go have fun with it". Obviously he didn't directly tell that crowd to flip the car and set fire to it, but what he said pretty much caused it.4/7/2006 12:21:47 PM |

To me this sounds like what amounts to a protest got out of hand because ONE guy did something stupid.
BTW I fully condone knocking the old lady out, if and only if the guy screamed "MASTERSTROKE" when hitting her across the face with the sign 4/7/2006 12:24:30 PM |
Kris All American 36908 Posts user info edit post |
Yeah the guy was out of line for knocking that woman over, it's silly to lay that on whoever send out the email, but telling your guys to mess up a press conference of your opponent is a pretty shitty thing to do. 4/7/2006 12:27:18 PM |

it wasn't that cool
However, the obvious association to be made here is that he somehow condoned the old-woman slaying4/7/2006 12:30:13 PM |

Then apparently what this cat was doing wasn't protesting and thus, your statement is irrelevant to the thread.

no my statement is very relevant, c'mon you are smarter than this
here i will walk you through it 1. nick lampson announces press conference 2. delay's campaign call for protesters to disrupt the press conference 3. protesters disrupt conference 4. one misguided asshat acting on his own douchebaggary slugs a woman
calling for a protest (something that while sometimes tasteless is certainly allowed and protected) is not calling for people to assault old women
trying to imply some kind of connection is retarded4/7/2006 3:50:03 PM |

I actually didn't see anywhere that DirtyGreek or anyone else claimed the protest wasn't ok.
Thus, your statement was irrelevant. 4/7/2006 3:59:32 PM |

he wouldnt have made the thread if he didnt want to imply some degree of guilt

Call me crazy, but it appears to me that he was pointing out that these protesters who were sent by the Delay campaign turned out to be thugs. Whether they were directed to be thugs is rather irrelevant, too. Doubly so, since it's a point DirtyGreek didn't make.

he was either trying to imply guilt, or criticizing a protest. my statement is actually more relevant for the latter. 4/7/2006 4:07:16 PM |
