Nothing older than mid-90's, cruise control is a must, I would prefer 5-speed but can settle for an auto. I'd like something small with good mpg, 2 or 4 door. Civic hatchback would be perfect. Appearance and speed are no issue. $3000-$3500 is my max budget.

^ I'll be doing a lot of 3 hr drives between here and VA. I want cruise control.
^^ The Accord is aight, I still haven't fixed whatever is making it shake crazily and I'm betting repairs will be expensive. It was in an accident before I bought it and I'm worried that problems will keep developing as a result. I'd rather just start over with a newer car that hopefully won't break as often. I don't want to worry about fixing it.
Also I want a smaller car with better gas milage (mine gets 25-30 mpg, which I realize is better than most cars on the road but it could be better). Plus the Accord has those annoying automatic seatbelts that were all the rage in the early 90s.
If it can be fixed without a lot of hassle I might hold on to it, but I want to upgrade anyway. 4/10/2006 8:15:04 PM |

Hope that helps, the Tercel looks the most doable. 4/10/2006 8:31:09 PM |

If the newer Corolla were cheaper... If the older Corolla didn't have hearts painted on it....
Not too excited about the others. The Accord and Civic are modded, the Camry is Freaking Expensive, and the one person I know with a Tercel has had a lot of problems with it. Though it was pretty poorly maintained by a previous owner, which I guess has something to do with it.
Keep looking--hit Autotrader and the newspaper as well as craigslist--you should be able to find something. 4/10/2006 11:07:13 PM |

Tercel = Disposable car.
They just don't hold up that well; they were designed to be pretty much a throwaway car. My family has owned three of them, and be damned if I would want another.
Engines consumed oil like it was going out of style.
Corolla is the very minimum I would go with if I bought a Toyota. In fact, I'm looking for one for my sister who just totalled her '95 wagon (which was an absolutely wonderful car and a joy to work on). If I see any worth getting in your price range, I shall pass the word. She's looking for one around 10k to 12k.4/11/2006 2:45:58 AM |
