I'm considering whether to do an internship with the Student Conservation Association and go somewhere potentially badass and not make dick or to get a job here in Raleigh for the summer. Lookin for feedback about your SCA experience. Thanks. 4/10/2006 8:39:23 PM |

I've talked to someone who has, they didn't say it was great, but it's gotta be better than Raleigh.
Me, I got a job with the Navy and get to go to Japan all expense paid instead of staying here and rotting in Raleigh. 4/11/2006 9:50:38 PM |

I'd just like to point out that that is NOT the SCA. About half of the nobles in the NC Ren. fair actually come from VA. The SCA are the people you see running around with sticks and gobs of armor making a bunch of noise and thinking they're the coolest thing in existance.
Lynn, who plays Queen Elizabeth, is AWESOME. She's actually an elementary school teacher and I can't imagine anybody better to play her part.
Sorry to detract from your thread, Wolf. 4/11/2006 9:56:07 PM |

Kind of depends on what you've got under your belt already. If you don't have any experience in conservation (I'm assuming you're in environmental/wildlife science or parks & rec) I would definitely look into an internship over a generic job. If you can find a different internship that would pay, by all means do that. Depending on your department you should have been receiving information about summer internships for some time now, with many of their application due dates already gone by.
However, check with the Raleigh Parks & Rec, http://www.raleighnc.gov/portal/server.pt/gateway/PTARGS_0_0_306_205_0_43/http;/pt03/DIG_Web_Content/employment/public/Current_Jobs/JOB-Intern.html
They have a couple involving natural resource management. Otherwise check out bulletin boards around the Zoology and Fisheries & Wildlife departments.
One summer internship I had through the Zoology Dept paid 1100/month, another 1300/month, so that paired with great experience was great.
