I dont want to go after another god damn big name coach. This guy would satisfy me as long as we don't embarass ourselves anymore by going big and failing....which WILL happen.

No way in hell Calipari wasn't using us.

we just got totally pwnt

if we're going to get a guy from a smaller conference, one from the Big South would be on the bottom of my list.

Sure takes a lot to beat UNCA and VMI each year.

I just want someone who can come in here and coach and not piss their pants when Duke and UNC come to town. He's a firey guy and gets the most out of very little at winthrop, and he's been two buzzer beaters away from the second round of the NCAA tournament the past two years.

i think marshall would be a risk, but i also agree he has a huge upside. he has done some pretty special things at winthrop and even though he is always a 16 or 15 seed, always seems to give the big boys a good game. i know charlotte backed out of a game with them this year. he's got to be the top guy now.

after reading about how the guys he recruited at CofC turned out, I feel a lot better about him.

He had more players in the NBA than Herb (well, until Grundy got called up).

^ I'd look at a Turgeon buyout before i called Marshall as well.

I would be happy to give him a shot if we looked at Gillispie and Turgeon first

I think Marshall is a great coach, but he's more of a "project" than the other two. I think he'd have a huge upside, just not as ready as the other two

No idea how long it is or what the buyout might be, just a name I threw out there that we should look into now

NO......this guy would be a HUGE flop in the ACC. if we get this guy the first thing i am gonna do is go buy a gun, i'd rather shoot myself in the head than listen to all the shit we would get for finishing last in the ACC for 3 years straight.

If this guy can recruit at Winthrop and compete with big conference school out of conference, he can probably build some connections and start recruting bigger name players here. His players obviously like him, cause who in their right mind would go to winthrop?

If you've seen them play, they're pretty exciting...but they dont have the best basketball players.

^ exactly. i mean paul hewitt came straight from siena to GT, and hes done a great job. they didnt make ther tourney this year b/c they were so young, but they will be a force next year. their recruiting class is straight dirty. siena has to be equal to winthrop. we just need to sign this guy and get him in here before all of our recruits bail and our leftovers transfer

Quote :
"Marshall just completed his eighth year at Winthrop, guiding the Eagles to a 23-8 record (13-3 in the Big South Conference) and the Big South's regular-season and tournament titles. Winthrop was beaten 63-61 by Tennessee in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

Marshall has a 165-78 record at Winthrop, with six Big South championships and six trips to the NCAA tournament. A three-time Big South Coach of the Year and the school's all-time winningest coach, Marshall signed a 10-year contract in October.

The deal gives Marshall an annual package of $200,000 and has a $100,000 buyout if he elects to leave Winthrop before June 30, 2010. N.C. State reportedly offered Barnes and Calipari deals worth around $2 million."

Six trips to the tourney in eight years at fucking Winthrop. Marshall sounds good right about now.

We could totally lure this guy here for prally $400,000(double what he's making) and pay his buyout of 100,000.

quit askin about haith. we're obviously not talking to him.

cross him off the list.

marshall, on the other hand, seems to be a viable option at this point.

The only reason I want Haith more is that he's a bigger name, so that might help recruiting.

^stfu you have no idea who we're talking to.

miami is in the middle of program building. it would be a dick move on our part to poach haith away. same thing w/ lowery, but for a different reason. look at how many coaches SIU has lost to bigger schools in the past 5 years.

1) We probably don't want to talk to Haith because he'll probably bust a nut and spontaneously combust with excitement if he sees Lee Fowler on the caller ID and start packing his bags for Raleigh before we even get out a word...

and...

2) THE ACC DISCOURAGES HIRING COACHES WITHIN THE CONFERENCE. The only way we get Haith is if Lee begs Swofford...which I hope he doesn't.
