sure, nobody else seems to want to though.

I'm serious though....they were posting Paul Silas randomly also. He would be good.

personally, i would rather have a young mid-major coach than an NBA guy at this point

if we end up getting a Coach K, Gary Williams, Bob Knight type from the mid major ranks he would be able to stay here a long time

didnt we say that about Herb?

I'm just thinking that getting a big name coach is the only way to get our fans back into basketball, get Ced to stay, and let us compete immediately

a lot of people prob. did say that about Herb, but lets not forget he was a GOOD coach

he just didn't have a lot of the swagger and attitude a lot of fans wanted; and the wins over Duke and UNC (or lack there of) didn't help

all great coaches have to get a start somewhere, usually a mid-major head coaching position

if you read the oklahoma message boards right now, the vast majority of them were fed up w/ sampson anyway and when they got capel they were extremely excited

i think the right mid-major coach can breathe life back into this program, but an NBA guy would be more attractive, no doubt

I dont care though. I just want someone to come in and fire up our players. At least make it look like they're trying.

I don't give a shit about NBA, so the only thing I know about Mike Montgomery is because of google and part of the article:

Quote :
"Among his many accomplishments on the collegiate level, Montgomery was honored with the 2004 John R. Wooden “Legends of Coaching” Lifetime Achievement Award. He became the sixth collegiate coach to earn the distinguished honor, joining an impressive list that includes Dean Smith, Mike Krzyzewski, Lute Olson, Denny Crum and Roy Williams.

Montgomery compiled an impressive 547-244 (.692) overall record in 18 years at Stanford (1986-2004) and eight seasons at the University of Montana (1978-1986). He boasts an even more impressive 25 winning seasons in his 26 years as a head coach at both Stanford and Montana. Montgomery was named head men's basketball coach at Stanford University April 25, 1986.

His teams made it 18 teams into postseason play in the last 20 years (1985-04), 12 times advancing to the NCAA Tournament (1988-89, 1991-92, 1994-95, 1995-96, 1996-97, 1997-98, 1998-99, 1999-00, 2000-01, 2001-02, 2002-03, 2003-04 seasons), six times his teams received bids to the NIT (1984-85, 1985-86, 1987-88, 1989-90, 1990-91, 1993-94), and his Cardinal team won it all in the 1991 National Invitation Tournament (NIT). During the 1997-98 season, Stanford advanced to the NCAA Final Four in San Antonio.

An NBA coach would be able to attract a ton of good recruits.

"I've coached in the NBA and I know what it takes to make it out there. Play for me and I'll make you successful at the next level"

It works for football, I don't see why it wouldn't for basketball.

I would love to have Paul Silas.

He got a raw deal with the Hornets.

Also he isn't coaching anywhere now is he? Just not sure if college game would be good for him.
