This guy deserves his own thread. And it's a shame that a thread dedicated to his coaching greatness has not survived. Bill Self protoge. only 46 years of age.

his record is great. don't have time to look it up right now, cause i'm at work.

why do we want coaches who just took over their programs within the past 2-3 years?

don't we want someone who is somewhat established at a school? someone, perhaps, with a reputation.

Most coaches who have established programs don't want to leave them to come here.

exactly. the more established they are, the less likely they will be to leave. plus i want someone that could potentially be a great long term hire. i don't want to hire someone for 3 years just to turn around and go after somebody else. i want to be consistant.

You guys are dumb. He turned around a shitty program in the Big 12...that's a major conference...not a midmajor.

Billy's our best possible hire right now.

gillispie is easily our best remaining option.

i have a feeling its going to come down to either him or F. Haith.

which is kinda sad, but whateryagonnado?

Yeah and the A&M AD isnt returning calls either....
Most likely reworking his contract there and using our attention for another fatty raise.

DAMN UNC and DAMN DUKE. DAMN the spineless coaches that have used us for raises.

Billy G is the LAST coach I will be excited for us to get...

TAMU has pockets just as deep as Texas. Won't out bid them. Also, Gillispie is a complete Texas boy. I don't see him leaving.

Bring on Haith.

^ This is true

The only reason I think we can get him is he says he "Wants to coach somewhere where he can compete for national championships"

Voila. The ACC is calling your name.

That said, A&M can outbid us (But would they for BBall?) and he is a Texas guy at heart. Still, look at our facilities/conference/tradition compared to thiers

Didn't the TAMU AD say he wouldn't match 2 million? I hope we don't pay him that, but it definitely seems like they won't try to keep him unconditionally.

^ I think you're talking about LSU regarding John Brady

And if we offer Brady anything, I'm going to kick someone's ass.

(LSU could outbid us too if they wanted. That mention was a "Hey, come hire this guy" and nothing more from the LSU administration. The fans have wanted Brady gone for years. You know you suck if you're getting run out of town at a football school )

Texas A&M can outbid us? I mean, I'm sure they HAVE a lot of money, but it isn't the school paying for the majority of a coach, it is the alumni.

Do the alumni at A&M care about basketball at all?

They could probably match our bids if they want to.

However, I think it has more to do with Gillispie just wanting to stay in Texas. I also don't know how hard we tried...but I do know that we talked to him.

And you're dumb. Because he doesn't run that offense. And he only ran a grind-it-out offense because he was limited with his players. He only had one of the highest scoring offenses in the country when he coached at UTEP.

So STFU b/c you don't know what you're talking about. But it doesn't matter, b/c he's not coming here anyways.

It is normal for the coaching search to take two weeks or so, even Roy Williams wasn't announced the head coach at UNC untill about two weeks after Doh's departure. It is abnormal for a coach to be announced within a week of the search.
