went to pick up my car from Cricket Auto in Cary yesterday and the guy behind the counter had just returned from towing Michael Jordan's brand new 06 Range Rover Supercharged that was pimped out with 24's.

MJ was on I-40 around 8am when it knocked off. Range Rover roadside called the guys at Cricket to pick him up and take him to the dealership. MJ is apparently in town for charity and other stuff in chapel hill.

tow truck driver said MJ was a cool guy, and didn't seem to mind his 90K range was a lemon.

the driver has also towed torry holt's range rover and terrence holt's lexus.

note to self: no range rovers when im rich.

dre bly is hosting a charity golf tournament in chapel hill this weekend. also, torry's range rover might've broken down, but the rolls royce folks gave him a black rolls royce phantom to drive around in last weekend. btw, i don't think the range rover was torry's, just a loaner car from the dealership in cary.

its a range with a supercharged jaguar motor in it. unlike 99% of other range rovers in existance with the good old rover v8.

its my understanding that BMW put their own v8 in the newer ranges, and now ford has swapped it out for some ford engine in the newest ones

like the 2003 range rover, the new one, oh well, I guess anything would be an upgrade to the buick

I think the bottom ends are fine, They seem to have a lot of valve train problems though. optmusprimer could elaborate on this better.

correct, when BMW took over in '01 or so the engine management went all-bosch but the guts of the powertrain was the same old rover V8. and yes it is a derivative of the old all aluminum buick 215 from the 60's.

the new range rover sport has a 4.4L supercharged v8 from some jaguar.

personally i think the new range rover and range rover sport is junk. It has one of the cheapest interiors, i would go for a x5 4.8is or porsche cayenne anyday over the range.

yeah the x5 and cayenne turbo s are probably both nicer inside and much faster than a new range rover sport (also called a stormer) but i gaurantee you that the range can do much more offroad than the germans

heres the scenario for the HS kids

take rover off road, get massively stuck

have broken stuff fixed, install a couple grand worth of skidplates/diff guards

I gaurantee you are wrong.

Land Rover hasn't made a decent off-road vehicle since the Disco II's, and even they got crappy as they just started lobbing on all the electronic doodad shit that always broke.

It's pretty sad when dealership owners tell you they suck off the pavement. Especially the LR3, At least the Range Rovers still have some smidgen of capability.

-----------------------

Now if you want to talk like two generation ago Range's, Discos, or Defenders, I absolutely agree.
