so i recently reset my browser settings in IE and Firefox (cleared history, cache, cookies, etc.), and since then i will have connectivity for a while but after minutes to hours or so, no browser connectivity, and I can't ping websites. this has happened during one work session on the net on multiple occasions, but today i was online for a couple of hours before the 'request timed out' command prompt error message starts (and browser connectivity goes down).

Strange thing is I know that I've got connectivity in some sense, b/c my email app can still connect to the pop3 server when the ping requests fail.

resetting cable modem does nothing.

can't be the cables from router to desktop b/c i have browser connectivity right now

housemates laptop accesses the web fine

WTF?

can you get into the router settings page when everything else isn't working? http://192.168.1.1 usually

you say the mail client is still working but next time it happens see if you can telnet into the pop3 port from the command line to that same server

i tried to get into the router when the browsers went down and couldn't. Very odd. I thought it was the cable from the router to my desktop, but then, how can a cable fail after a while? Cables either work or they don't, so it's probably not that.

I'm thinking it's some sort of setting that's been inadvertently assigned for the desktop, I have no idea. Why would it come and go though?

BTW, reboots fix the connectivity issue. I'll try the tellnet connection, but what's the diff between my email client connecting and tellnetting in? What does the tellnet connection tell me that my email client connecting doesnt'?

There's your problem get rid of that. And delete your profiles for firefox, backup bookmarks first, tho.
start - > run - > %Appdata% -> firefox profile - > delete.

Then reinstall 1.5.0.1, I od not know where there's a copy of this, but I know everyone and their future kids have a problem with 0.2
