I lived in KC and have also been to several "urban" cities. Not sure if you want to classify raleigh as urban or a slightly large mayberry, but man, people are MUCh nicer here. It's a more open environment. In the midwest, people are very cliquey (clicky). I found it very difficult to meet new people there.

some very nice people in Raleigh. blacks are cool, whites are cool, the asians are cool, the mexicans are cool. it's just a great place for side conversation with strangers. at least that's been my experience.

all of my extended family is from the north and none of them are any different than everyone ive met here. This is including everyone I know from the north which is the majority of the people who live in North Carolina now. And many native southeners are dicks

People in raleigh do not count as nice/southern in most cases. Go down to greenville and I bet people you dont know will wave at you, when you walk in a store people will say hi, and as a general rule everyone you encounter will be in less of a piss ass mood.

The converse of this is that everyone down there drives slow as fucking molasses and will never get out of your fucking way.

i grew up in nc but had a lot of family still living up in new england. i consider myself a southerner simply b/c i was raised here and my mom's family is 100% southern. ive found assholes living in both areas. face it, theres nice people everywhere, and theres assholes everywhere.

and i cant emphasize enough how shitty Columbus, Ga. is. I'm not considering Auburn for grad school simply b/c its within 30 min of that godforsaken place. that area is 100% southern and 100% SHIT.
