I honestly think you'll have a better shot at finding a better neighborhood than a better RR alternative.

I live very close to morrisville in the western side of cary. we have BellSouth DSL at home (for about 5 years now) and couldn't be happier. My yearly downtime is under 2 minutes. You won't download as fast as I've seen RR get, but far more reliable.

Dude, that's barely better than dialup (~5.5KB/sec). Techs will intentionally BS you if they know (or can guess) the problem is going to take some $$$ to fix.

I don't know high-speed providers in the Morrisville area. Google it up, ask your neighbors/co-workers, etc. You can always threaten to cancel your service if you don't see sustained speeds of 300KB downstream, which is what you should be getting.

Road Runner near campus:

4805 down
359 up

Oh yeah, what modem do you have (sorry if you mentioned, I didn't see). You might just wanna trade in for another modem. I did that, and ended up fixing some major connectivity issues by going from an old Terayon to a Motorolla.

^^^ At the speeds you're getting you're being ripped off by Time Warner. If you can't get them to fix the problem, just switch to DSL.

And what the fuck, my bandwidth on campus is sucking horriby:

dslreports.com speed test result on 2006-04-23 02:30:04 EST:
1246 / 2596
Your download speed : 1246 kbps or 155.8 KB/sec.
Your upload speed is much faster than down.. have you tweaked?

Your upload speed : 2596 kbps or 324.5 KB/sec.

That's worse than I get at home with DSL!

Yeah, a new modem might help. If your internet use to work fine, and doesn't, it could just be the modem.
