I'm running Ubuntu Breezy Badger 5.10 and I have just installed Opera. I had a hard time getting sun java to work on this machine but blackdown java worked like a charm.

Only problem is that Opera's default java is sun. I know that I need to set the java for Opera to use under Tools>Preferences>Advanced>Content>Java Options however the directories i have tried for blackdown arent working.

I tried a locate blackdown and it told me this:

so i tried /usr/share/java-package/ in the java option window but opera doesnt think that's a valid java path.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Never used either Opera or blackdown in Breezy(don't know why you would want to either), but if it's anything like using Sun java and firefox, you've gotta get a dynamic link from the java*.so files to a plugin directory. Maybe this helps, probably doesn't, but it's worth a shot I guess.

thanks for the advice, I've done a little research since i asked this question but still havent found the answer, i'm going to post on an opera specific or blackdown specific forum next.

The reason i'm using opera is because my laptop is slow and firefox doesnt load as fast as opera. Also, i've had some problems getting sound and video to work in firefox, however, they work perfect in opera. I've never been able to fix the sound and video problems in firefox, and i've had them since i began using firefox at the 1.0 release on windows.

As to why i'm using blackdown...sun java really doesnt like breezy badger, even the ubuntu wiki said so. The last time I tried to get sun java working i ended up having to use apt-get to resolve unmet dependencies which led to cascading unmet dependencies because apt-get uninstalls to fix the umet dependencies in some cases instead of installing. Basically sun java caused me to wipe out my first ubuntu install on this computer.

The reason i use linux is because i enjoy working on computers, I actually have always had a computer ly either running linux on dual boot or as a main operating system ever since i started going to state 7 years ago. I started out with red hat and mandrake and slowly worked my way towards slackware and my roommates self-written operating system. I chose ubuntu because one of my other friends highly recommended it to use as a main operating system because it is somewhere in the middle of the ones that I have tried. I really have no complaints about ubuntu, except for gnome and kde are major ram hogs. I run xfce right now and i really wish i would've gotten xbuntu in the first place.

Back to the point, if i am not working on perfecting my linux install, i really dont enjoy even being in linux. I actually run windows in vmware on this machine and use it for the convience. I use linux because i enjoy working.
