whats the best way?

i have one of those scraper things. (dont ask me the name the bf bought it at home depot for me)
and i've been peeling it and scraping at it. and using a small steamer and this shit is taking forever!
i've been working on it for almost 3 hrs and barely have a 10th of the room done. (its a bathroom)

and to make it worse i broke the toilet...

a screw holding the base of the tank was completely rusted and i put a little weight on the toilet tank and it broke clear in 2 and the tank emptied onto the floor. fun times i tell you.

I broke my toilet yesterday, but it wasn't from standing on it.

Really though, if you get it moist enough, it will come off relatively easily.

you need one of the spiked wallpaper rollers

it pokes little holes in the wallpaper....so when you steam it again, the steam gets to the back of the paper, where the adhesive is

we just scraped a bathroom and livingroom.

Get a water sprayer and soak the paper. It will come off then. THEN you get a solvent (at home deopt or wherever) and scrape off the glue

did a entire house when i was younger, it really sucked. A wet sponge goes a long way, steam sounds like a good idea, but seems like it would take longer. You wet that stuff down good it will come off pretty easy

i've always just used a spray bottle with hot water in it. Just get it good and wet and and spray the backside as you are pulling it off.

but if it is wallpaper that was applied directly to the drywall it is going to be a bitch no matter what. if it was applied over paint, it should come off relatively easy.

i bought a scraper thing. doesnt do anything. bought a spray solvent remover - just makes it sticky.

theres 2 layers of wallpaper and it was applied to the drywall.

peel the vinyl printed layer back

then use the 'spiked wallpaper roller things'

wet it down with a solution of hot water and DIF wallpaper remover

let that mess sit for awhile so it can dissolve the glue

theoretically that backing layer should peel off in one sheet, but you might have to scrape if the walls weren't primed properly when the paper was hung in the first place.

Spray fabric softner on it..this will loosen the wallpaper and allow you to peel it off.

When you say the wall-paper was applied to the drywall, do you mean directly to the drywall, without the person putting even primer on the drywall?

My previous homeowners did that in one room with a runner, and I basically couldn't get the paper off without taking off the drywall. Yes, tried steaming, poking holes and spraying, scraping, spit, foul language. Nothing worked.

I did the best I could, spackled the rough patches, and used a rag-on technique to paint the walls. Rag-on is where you paint a base coat one color, and then sponge, or in my case, use a wad of rags, to dab on a different but related color that's been mixed with enamel. Gives the wall a textured look and hides little oopsies.

The room looks very nice now with green on green. It's sorta like sitting in the middle of a tree.
