[quote] You've got to hand it to North Carolina State, which had three of its defensive linemen chosen in the first 26 picks of the draft -- ends Mario Williams No. 1 to Houston, and Manny Lawson No. 22 to San Francisco and tackle John McCargo No. 26 to Buffalo. But it does beg the obvious question: How in the name of Lou Holtz did the Wolfpack only manage a piddling 7-5 record, including a 3-5 mark in the ACC, with an NFL-quality defensive line?

Good question.

If only our offense had been better

True but you have to agree that our team was way more talented than their record showed.

Not really a great question, the answers are obvious and have been pointed out on several occasions.

Here are the main reasons:
A. Our offense was anemic at best, the running game never developed in the first half of the season leaving the entire offense on Jay's shoulders.(when it did develop we actually played well because we took the game out of the QB's hands).

B. While our DL was full of talent and potential, there weren't too many games when they were all dominating. Manny was big in the first half of the season, Mario in the second, and McCargo missed the last half of the season with injuries.

C. Some games our defense got man-handled. Look at the Clemson game, we got ran all over, they're offensive line dominated our DL.

On the defensive side, yes. On the offensive side, other than the tailback position and the kicking game, no.

3 issues plagued us this past season

1. Relics of Mazzonne that were hard to shake
2. The poor coaching decision to leave Jay Davis in for as long as we did
3. Poor clock management by coaching staff

other things like penalties, Stone's interceptions, etc. hurt too; but the game-killers were the above three.

Rivers was an anomally Chuck inherited

we just need a QB that's a non-liability so that the defense and running game can do their thing.

we need to focus on running the ball and stopping the run

if we do that with uncanny focus, the passing offense and defense will work itself out.

that's an easy question to answer and anyone who watched our games can tell you it was because of the Wack-ass offense

If you were a hot shot QB wanting to play out of high school would you come to state where Rivers was King of the mountain and played 98% of plays for 4 years???

ANSWER: THE OPPORTUNITY FOR AND EMERGE OF ANDRE BROWN WAS NOT UNTIL THE SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI GAME! We only lost 1 game after he was given the opportunity to prove himself.
