Anybody else surprised when the Broncos, who in my opinion have a top 10-15 NFL QB, drafted a QB with the 11th pick? Are they sending a message to Plummer? 5/1/2006 11:02:43 AM |

i think they are giving plummer another year, but telling him Super Bowl or Bust 5/1/2006 11:07:04 AM |

Plummer is not Denver's answer I don't think. Last year he played well but I doubt he does it again.
I think Cutler is gonna be good. He's got a John Elway-like cannon.
Shanahan knows he isn't going to win a Super Bowl with Jake. 5/1/2006 11:07:55 AM |

After his AFC championship game, yes, they are sending him a message....
He is an average starting QB yes, but still can be prone to all those INT's.
I like Plummer, but I still think it's a good move. If Plummer plays well great, if he doesn't then you've got a good young replacement. You need 2 good QB's & besides, Plummer isn't a spring chicken anymore. 5/1/2006 11:08:40 AM |

i just thought defense was a bigger need for denver and the reason they lost in the playoffs last year 5/1/2006 11:08:44 AM |

And thier names sound so, similar i wasnt looking at the TV when they picked him and I thought I heard tagibllue say "with the 11th pick, the denver broncos select jake plummer"
But it is wierd for team that finished in the top 4 last year to want to start over at QB, the one position that all contending teams have stability at
That said, unless another Jake stops making so many bonehead plays this year, I wouldnt mind Fox and Hurney looking at a signal caller in next years draft
Brady Quinn, anyone?
so long as his sisters part of the deal 5/1/2006 11:08:52 AM |

nah, not too surprising. jake plummer is in is 10th season, not many qbs play for much longer. cutler is insurance for now and will have time to develop behind plummer. 5/1/2006 11:09:07 AM |

That's the dumbest thing I have heard in my life. When you have a QB who was bad, but is now good, and is taking you to the playoffs, why are they in such a hurry to run him off?

Yeah like Cutler is gonna be able to take them to a superbowl in 2 years.
Denver fans must be like state basketball fans.

Hopefully quinn has long since been drafted by the time the panters roll around to pick 32nd.

if we pick 32nd i dont think we will have had QB issues
delhomme isnt the most consistent QB but he is a great leader and he knows how to win...he's gonna have to screw up pretty bad to make people forget a superbowl appearance and 2 nfc title games in the last 3 years 5/1/2006 11:17:03 AM |

^^yeah sometimes I feel like Delhomme is a product of the talent around him more so than a great quarterback. He has made some boneheaded decisions in the past few years that have cost us games....but you never know if thats play calling from the sidelines or if its delhomme being an idiot.

I am not under the impression that cutler will step be and automatically go to the superbowl, but if this doesn't light a fire under him they just might hand the reins to cutler 5/1/2006 11:22:04 AM |

did I say big ben?
no, I said Jay Cutler.
He won't be able to take them any farther than plummer would.5/1/2006 11:32:29 AM |

i think his point, fucking mangoloid, is that you don't know the impact a rook can have anymore
big ben beat the shit out of fools his rook season, and won the fucking superbowl before he was 25
NICE PICK, COWHLA 5/1/2006 11:37:04 AM |

big ben also went to a run-first team with a beastly defense 5/1/2006 11:40:01 AM |

my point, fucking woodpecker, is that plummer is a fine qb, and that there are plenty of places that denver could use improvement before trading up to draft a backup or a "motivational tool"
Plummer looked plenty motivated to win this season without someone behind him. He is a hell of a lot better than Tommy Maddox anyway. 5/1/2006 12:04:00 PM |

we have to remember that Plummer was an MVP candidate this season until Alexander outright won the rushing title. Jake is one of those guys who is extremely quick on his feet and can throw the ball well. He's also got Jevon Walker this year...Ashley Lelie, Rod Smith, and Walker on the same team with Tatum Bell and Jake the Snake, they'll be good next year.
But Shawn Merriman told me that San Diego was going to win the Super Bowl this year, so I'll have to go with that 5/1/2006 12:24:10 PM |

lol, I guess you are right, woodpecker wasn't very creative.
but still, I don't think the big ben situation is comprable to this one. Even if cutler turns out to be as good as big ben, the broncos still had other needs besides QB.
Hell, he may end up starting in denver and winning a superbowl with them when plummer retires in 5-6 years, but I still feel like the broncos had other needs, this season, that should have been adressed more than drafting for the future.5/1/2006 12:40:37 PM |
Woodfoot All American 60354 Posts user info edit post |
there are plenty of people, mostly SEC fans who say Cutler is better than young or leinart
i think the situation is very comparable
you have a player from a team that not many people knew about who had little respect coming out, and who went to a team that didn't need an immediate QB solution 5/1/2006 12:53:38 PM |

the broncos are pretty solid at most spots so getting Cutler was not a bad move. I would say that one of their most urgent needs was at WR and they got Javon Walker, so they did well imo. 5/1/2006 1:02:05 PM |
