Perhaps a kickback to the WKNC of yesteryear with the Rude Awakening Morning Show? eh eh? Can the fragile ears of daytime KNC listeners handle it? 5/1/2006 11:14:29 AM |

Well, if you 4 bad responses, then no, your whooping 5 or 6 person listener base probably can't handle it. 5/1/2006 11:19:10 AM |

Believe me, I am well aware that this is not very accessable music; however, those who do enjoy this music don't simply disappear during the daytime hours.
For the four negative feedbacks responses I got via the internet, I received 3 very positive phone calls from people on their way to work requesting more metal. That leads me to believe that there is an audience to cater to.
Once 10 o clock hit I tried to switch it back up to more of the KNC daytime sound.
and there were about the typical 60 listeners on the internet feed for 9-10 o clock in the morning. just fyi. 5/1/2006 11:26:16 AM |

you're always gonna hear feedback from people who dislike what you're doing more times than those who like what you're playing. if they like it, they'll just listen and enjoy their commute to work or wherever it is they're listening. 5/1/2006 11:33:42 AM |

Don't even have a show yet.
DJ Squared (Jay) who trained me had a final this morning, so I eagerly offered to pick up his slot.
I figure the only way to get better is to spend time in the studio and work at it.
Hopefully I'll be able to get a slot this summer and practice so I won't be such a n00b. 5/1/2006 11:37:44 AM |

I'm all for personality and variety, especially at a place like KNC...
but all that music is AWFUL.
Plz to play some James Brown and Neutral Milk Hotel. 5/1/2006 11:43:00 AM |

what we need is a fucking station that will play a mix of new rock and punk music (not 'pop-punk', I'm talking millencolin, old thrice, pennywise, etc.)
I'm tired of the "new rock" stations in Raleigh flooding the airwaves with Alice in Chains and other old rock. there's really no station that you can listen to and hear whats new in the rock/punk world, down in Florida (or anywhere else in the country) there are multiple stations with that genre of music, here in the triangle we've got nothing
I really wish I could start my own station 5/1/2006 11:51:40 AM |

there are pros and cons to the way KNC has their stuff set up.
KNC is more structured, whereas Chapel Hill's station XYC is just sort of a cluster fuck, and that makes it hard to listen to anything.
I understand the purpose behind the structure behind KNC's format, but it makes it hard on DJ's to play music they know more about (or enjoy) when there are limited spots available.
IE: I know more about metal than I do about art rock, therefore if I have an afternoon day time slot I am sort of forced to play more of the KNC arty sound, thus resulting in shitty radio because I'm trying to fake something.
(Believe me I am well aware that KNC plays more than just art rock in the day time, I was just trying to make an easy example.)
Whatever happened to just being yourself?! 5/1/2006 12:14:23 PM |

When I was in high school and during my freshman year here, I stole one of my friend's spots in highly unauthorized fashion and would place random clusterfucks of shit.
She got yelled at for it. "Johnny Cash and Queen are NOT in our format!"

Im on Friday afternoons 1-3 on KNC. While I dont usually throw on slayer or Trivium, as much as I would like to, I try to keep to such things as A Perfect Circle, or Nine Inch Nails, and I do throw in some old school punk type stuff every now and then.

I didn't read this entire thread, but keep up with the fucking metal, PLEASE. Preferably more along the lines of METAL metal (necrophagist), not metalcore (BTBAM), but I know you need to cater to everybody.
Good job, don't let pussies who can't handle it and their less-than-scathing hatemail deter you from playing what's real. 5/1/2006 3:33:28 PM |

the times I have played harder shit during the daytime I have gotten compliments, but if you want to listen to metal on WKNC, tune in Friday night from 8pm on. I do Friday Night Request Rock from 8-10, then from 10pm onward is usually more obscure metal. 5/1/2006 3:52:52 PM |

Fuck your format and fuck the surveys that came up with that shit. I'm not saying the music you usually play is horrible, but mix that shit up, yo. I want to hear something in an entirely different genre every single time a song is played. Jazz, classical, pussy rock, classic rock, 80's pop, metal, whatever. Just play something different.
