should be a quick connect above the trim plate beside the nozzle that uses a standard hose disconnect

My SeaDoo and my neighbor's have a water hookup at the engine head. You need a little proprietary hose that plugs onto the head and hooks to your water hose.
Do not turn on the water first and then crank it. Crank first...Then turn on water.
I don't know how long you need to run it out of the water, but it won't hurt it to crank for 10 or 15 seconds just to make sure it's running before you drop it in the lake.

Good info, but the hose from my neighbor's 95 or 96 doesn't work on my 93. I tried to use it to pump some antifreeze into the block this past winter, but it wouldn't click in. It seemed like there was a very tiny difference between the two...His was blue and mine was green by the way.
Is it possible that they make a 1/4" disconnect and maybe a 5/16" disconnect or something like that?

of course, the only reason to run water is to keep the engine cool. you can start it without even worrying about hooking up the water. just don't run it for more than 20 sec. that'll be enough time to at least see if it was just a dead battery. 5/1/2006 7:02:01 PM |

no difference, they can just be real hard to get in when they get old, try some dish soap on the o ring and work the clip loose with a pair of needle nose pliers 5/1/2006 7:11:20 PM |

and shut the water off before u turn it off, so in other words run it for 10-15 secs without water before and after... There should be somekind of hook up under the seats tho 5/1/2006 10:43:28 PM |

i don't know anything about the cooling in jetski engines but the service manual for my 10hp outboard says not to ever crank the engine outside of the water (or without the flush plug hooked up) because it can burn up the rubber water pump impeller--too much friction when its spinning dry. 5/6/2006 6:36:35 PM |

^^ that has nothing to do with the cooling system on a sea-doo 5/7/2006 3:14:23 PM |
Igor All American 6672 Posts user info edit post |
aight here is another question.
i cleaned the cooling system on a 440 kawasaki by taking aut all the hoses and running water through it to flush out, then compressed air to get the water out (couldn't flush it all at once because the system was clogged to where it was completely stopped up). well i got all the debree out of the cooling system, but i guess while i was flushing it some water got in to the engine. before starting it up i pulled the plugs out and turned it over to get any water there might be from outta the combustion chamimbers, but the moore i turn it over, the more water keeps coming out (i guess there is some water accumulated in the exhaust manifold).
whats the best way to ensure i got all the water outta the engine before i put the plugs back in and let it crank, and also is it safe to keep turning it over with the starter with the plugs out to get the water out? i mean lubricationwise?
thanks

When I've waterlogged mine I always pull the plugs, turn the engine over to get most of the water out, spray some WD-40 in there and give it 20 minutes to evaporate out. Then crank it and let er burn any leftover moisture out.
The RPMs of the starter turning the engine over are next to nothing. I wouldn't be worried about lubrication.
Definately don't let it sit with moisture in there. Shit'll rust with the quickness. 5/8/2006 2:54:47 PM |
Igor All American 6672 Posts user info edit post |
thanks skack, i've just done that and it seems to not be spitting any more water. i let it sit for a bit then ill try to crank it up.
also is it possible for the water to sip down from the combustion chamber into the bottom end? it's a two-stroke.

I dunno. Are you using the oil injection still, or does this one take a pre-mix?
If it's on a pre-mix it may or may not have an oil tank with a line that lubricates the bottom end separately. I don't know how it works on Kawasaki's without looking it up. You should be able to tell by following the line from the oil tank (if it's still there.) It'll either go straight to the intake side of the engine (somewhere around the carbs) or it'll go to the intake side of the engine and have a fat line (~1/4") to the bottom end. 5/8/2006 3:06:50 PM |

allright i got it to fire up
pardon my jet ski ignorance, but here is one more question. i can see my driveshaft spinning where it attaches to the egine, but if i look behind the ski while it is running i see the impeller(?) not spinning. there are two rotors in there, impeller and pump, and the only one i can actually see is the rear one.is it supposed to spin when the jet ski sitting on dry land and ilding or revving?
^^its a premix, and theres no obvious oil tank anywhere

Anytime the engine is running in the water the impeller will be spinning; even at idle. The ski will not "sit still" and when you fall off the handlebar will turn and it will just sit there turing in slow, tight, circles in the water while you swim to it.
I don't see any reason that it wouldn't be turning on land too, but I have to admit that I've never looked at mine to see it spinning. There is no gearbox or anything though to put it into neutral so I don't see any way that it shouldn't be spinning. Anyone who knows different can feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. 5/8/2006 3:58:40 PM |
Igor All American 6672 Posts user info edit post |
i took the protective plates off the bottom to get an access to the impeller, and turns out the second "propleller" lookin deal is actually cast as a part of the jet assembly; it stays stationary. only the impeller in front of it is spinning driven by the driveshaft.

Lol...The stator is not in the jet pump. I'm 190% sure of it.
It's something to keep the water from whirlpooling in the pump I think...To make it more efficient. Water flow goes through the impeller and then past this cast iron thing and then out the nozzle.

Yeah, there's a stator in the jet pump. It's NOT an alternator or motor or electrical stator.
Its purpose is to redirect water into and/or out of the impeller blades to improve jet pump efficiency. It decreases flow turbulence, separation, and subsequently cavitation.
I'm not THAT dumb to think that the charging system is gonna be in the jet pump. Jesus fucking Christmas jumpin' on a goddam pogo stick...
BTW, the marine sealant that you want is gonna be the 3M stuff. You can get it at Boater's World at Pleasant Valley or at West Marine over by IHOP on Capital Blvd. They have a combination adhesive and sealant that works well...5200. I think they also have a straight sealant with less adhesive properties but I can't remember the name.
I might have actually seen this shit at Walmart as well.5/9/2006 6:57:22 PM |

Jordan and Falls are probably the closest places to put in. There are two free boat ramps on Six Forks that you can use. Just go way out on Six Forks...About 4-5 miles past the outer beltline. At one point you'll have to turn left to stay on Six Forks or else you'll end up on "Possum Trot Rd" or some bullshit.5/10/2006 1:05:22 AM |

Mine seems to top out closer to 52-53 according to the speedometer anyways.
