I imagine more people miss the days when there WEREN'T summer blockbusters.

Decided to check out IMDb. Cars (New Pixar movie) will probably be a huge hit with kids.

"Out of sight" made about 37 mil in three months.

Pirates of the Caribbean made 47 mil on the OPENING WEEKEND.

austin powers made 53 mil total, while PotC made ~300 mil total.


I thought to myself "hmmmmmm, maybe when he says 'summer blockbuster,' he really means 'good movie'"

but then i realized that couldn't be it since u put godzilla on there.

you strike me as crazy if you don't think a few if not the majority of the movies on the above list are going to make a shit-ton of cash munny (assuming that's your criteria for summer blockbuster).

and the other is a really good movie

so godzilla would be an example of the first and out of sight the second, barely a blockbuster though


im mainly talking about armegeddon, independece day, star wars, etc.


hey if all they put out is crappy movies then they're bound to make some money, i dont care about the box office it means absolutely nothing,
its about making a big movie with alot of hype

but personally i'm really anticipating PotC2, X3, MI3, SoaP, Clerks, & Miami Vice(b/c of Mann).

Furthermore, all of the other movies I listed above have potential to be breakout hits. A "really good movie" isn't known to be really good until around the time it's released.

excuse me for being a bit of a film nut....

lord of the rings is fine and all, but i think most of the people here mean the inspirational and touching aspects of film have left the scene. I'd hardly expect LOTR and Harry Potter to do as well as they did had they not been novels in the first place. I mean, I think it's as awesome and ridiculous as the next guy, but movies like Snakes on a Plane are a direct corroboration of what I'm saying. We had movies coming out on a consistent and yearly basis in the 90's that were just plain awesome and thought provoking, like Pulp Fiction (94), Natural Born Killers(94), Casino (95) Goodfellas (90), Saving Private Ryan (98), The Matrix (99), The Big Lebowski (98).....the list goes on and on. Star Wars 3? Please. War of the Worlds was good, but not phenomenal. And just look at Disney- yes I have seen Lilo and Stitch, The Emperor's New Groove, and Atlantis, all equally forgettable, and it makes me wonder what the hell happened to the likes of Aladdin and The Lion King. Yes, there are shitty movies that come out every year, but only it seems to be in greater disproportion these days.
