go vote. My early returns (I know these won't turn out b/c it's a popularity contest)

AL

C: Ramon Hernandez BAL -- Victor Martinez a CLOSE 2nd
1B: Chris Shelton DET -- gotta go with him over Konerko right now but this may change
2B: I honestly don't know who to pick... maybe Adam Kennedy?
3B: Eric Chavez OAK
SS: Miguel Tejada BAL -- Jeter 2nd
OF: Johnny Gomes TB
OF: Nick Swisher OAK
OF: Vlad Guerrero ANA
DH: David Ortiz BOS
SP: Curt Schilling

NL

C: Paul LoDuca NYM
1B: Albert Pujols STL -- my boy Delgado is right there too
2B: Bill Hall MIL -- with the write in vote
3B: Garret Atkins COL -- blah.. should be DW if he didn't hurt his groin or Miggy with a better team around him
SS: Omar Vizquel SF
OF: Lance Berkman HOU -- I know he is playing 1B but he deserves to start, period.
OF: Moises Alou SF -- Hawpe could go but I'm not putting two Rockies on my starting team with that thin air.
OF: Andruw Jones ATL
SP: Pedro Martinez -- no doubt.

Based purely on performance.

...and you realize that Shelton's stats have REALLY slipped lately

he is leaps and bounds behind Paulie (in all of the important stats BA, RBI, K). their OPS is just about the same

This would be mine:

OF: Vernon Wells TOR --Nick Swisher OAK 2nd
OF: Vlad Guerrero ANA
DH: Travis Hafner CLE
SP: Curt Schilling

NL

C: Paul LoDuca NYM

Hall is a true utility guy. He plays 2B, SS, and 3rd.. 2B is sort of a dead position now that Soriano is in the OF to me..

^ body of work. Shelton still has the numbers and is in what projected to be a much weaker lineup.

Quote :
"in all of the important stats BA, RBI, K). "

RBIs are completely team dependent. Konerko has a better average, lower OPS, 6 fewer extra base hits, 3 fewer HRs, and doing it with far better protection then Shelton has been afforded..

1B: Jason Giambi, Yankees
2B: Brian Roberts, Orioles
SS: Miguel Tejada, Orioles
3B: Eric Chavez, A's

OF: Nick Swisher, A's
OF: Alexis Rios, Jays (I consider Gomes a DH since he's played 4 games in the outfield..otherwise he would be here)

NATIONAL LEAGUE

C: Brad Ausmus, Astros
1B: Albert Pujols, Cards
2B: Jose Vidro, Nationals
SS: Omar Vizquel, Giants
3B: Morgan Ensberg, Astros
OF: Andruw Jones, Braves
OF: Brad Hawpe, Rockies

Why don't you all wait till the end of June to vote when the stats really will stand out.

Thank goodness Ripken retired. I got so tired of him getting voted in every year even though he was hitting .230.

You get 25 votes per person. I did 1 now and I'll do a few every so often. That's why I said 'early returns.'

Oh and my NL SS is Wilson .. completely forgot about him..

** How funny that the best 3 NL pitchers so far are all over 34 years old. Pedro, Maddox, and Glavine.

Replace Andruw in CF with Carlos Beltran. Better AVG, more HRs, better OPS.. the only major stat category that he isn't ahead of Andruw in is RBIs and that is team/AB dependent.. and Carlos missed 10 games.

** Right now I'd have Carlos and Wright as the only 2 Mets in the starting 9

Paul Lo Duca - hell no! Brian McCann was leading the NL in hitting before getting hurt. Yeah Lo Duca's 13 RBIs and 770 OPS is fantastic. McCann has pretty much better offensive stats across the board.

^ so who you got now? Barrett is having a solid season, but the AJ punch fucked him. Estrada is playing well too.

Based purely off of offensive stats my order is:

1. Barrett
2. McCann
3. Estrada
4. Damien Miller
5. Ausmus
6. Lo Duca

Not much to chose from though.

No offense to LoDuca but there are 5 starting catchers in the NL with a higher BA, 10 with more RBI's, and 9 with more HR's. I like LoDuca, have since he played for the Dodgers, but I'll have to disagree with you.

this is really based on performance

AL

C: Joe Mauer MIN --battin an even .350, can't argue with that
1B: Paul Konerko CHW
2B: Mark Loretta BOS
3B: Alex Rodrigues NYY --as much as I hate to do it his R's and RBI's dominate
SS: Miguel Tejada BAL
OF: Manny Ramirez BOS
OF: Nick Swisher OAK
OF: Vlad Guerrero ANA
DH: Jim Thome CHW
SP: Curt Schilling BOS

NL

C: Brian McCann ATL
1B: Albert Pujols STL
2B: Chase Utley PHI
3B: Miguel Cabrera FLA
SS: Edgar Renteria ATL
OF: Matt Holliday or Brad Hawpe COL - 6 of one...
OF: Alfonso Soriano WAS

Too bad for Ryan Howard that Pujols is a 1B too. He has torn the fuck out of the ball in May. I also gotta admit that I didn't expect much from Soriano, but he is playing great for the Nats. I really thought he was going to suck balls in the NL and not playing in the Texas bandbox.

Who is saying that Bonds will make it? His stats don't add up to All Star quality this year. His OPS is still excellent, but not much else is. Unless the fans vote him in, I doubt he'll get it (or atleast I hope he doesn't). He'd likely decline any invite anyway so he can rest his knees and shit...

Basically NyM410 knows a lot about the Mets and players who used to be in the Mets system, the New York Yankees, and the Boston Red Sox. He's mediocre on other teams and below average in AL teams in particular.

Carrying them? They're 4-6 in the last 10.

I wouldn't mind Rolen starting. He is having a fine year but so are Miggy Cabrera and David Wright.. I'm gonna be a homer and say Wright is the guy (he's leading votes too now).

Wright is hitting .335, 12 HR, 45 RBIs, 11 SB, .978 OPS.. (not that it matters but he just made the #1 web gem today too and pretty much saved the game).

Wright is better in every major offensive catagory except for batting average, which he is losing to Rolen by .001. There's no question. I don't care who's carrying what.

^Rolen is hitting .351 that's more than .001 a point.

Rolen has 40 RBIs, 39 Runs scored compared to Wright's 44 RBIs and 40 runs scored in 9 LESS games. Rolen has higher OBP (Easily) and SLG percentages. Wright has struck out 47 times to Rolen's 25. Don't try and tell me Wright has better numbers.

^^Surely you aren't going to say Wright is a better 3rd basemen than Rolen, I mean I know Wright can field, but how many Gold Gloves does he have?

I mean right there I just showed you how Rolen's are better.

Rolen is batting cleanup for a first place team without ANY protection right now. I mean Juan Encarnacion is batting behind him.

why dont you give us rolen's stats without pujols then, since he obviously benefited greatly from pujols

ps rolen and wright's OBP and SLG %s are identical

also if you are going to use Ks as a measuring stick, you cant say well Wright had 50 more at bats than rolen when comparing their K totals

That's why I said 'not that it matters.' It was happening as I typed it. Actually Wright has been very inconsistent in the field this year, especially late in games. He makes all sort of great plays but will screw up on the easiest of plays..

Rolen is at 8 HRs 43 RBIs and is hitting .358 now with .430 OBP and .596 SLG

David Wright is at 12 HRS 45 RBIs .335 BA .406 OBP and .571 SLG

Either way NL is okay at 3rd base.
