I volunteer for MAGDRL ( Mid Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League ) http://www.magdrl.org/ This is our most active time of the year and we are thinking of ways to raise money for all the dogs we have had turned into us. Any Ideas ? Here is a link to all the N.C site http://www.ncdanerescue.com/ We have had over 25 calls for owner turn ins this month. And as always we are in desprate need of foster homes. Thanks Dave

I run a travel business and I will be happy to donate a couple vacations to raffle off. I do this already every year for the golden retriever rescue.

Incidently, if anyone else is involved in fundraisers to support animals, please let me know.

yard sales work. also, just asking for donations works sometimes. the aussie rescue did a raffle at an agility trial and we made some pretty good money. i don't know where you guys could do it though.

good luck

ProPlayPoker Thanks a lot. PM me with you contact info. All donations are also tax-deductable!

ncsuamyk we make fence exceptions in certain cases, Town homes for instance. The adoptable dogs are scattered throught the state. We have 2 main kennels, one in Taylorsville and one near Fayetteville. There are several dogs in foster homes here in Raleigh. If you are really interested in a dog fill out an aplication and send it in. Drop me a PM if you have any questions and I will try to get them answered for you. Thanks

Great Danes ROCK. I've had 3 (plus one Dane/German Shephard mix).

I think I'd like either a Great Dane/Doberman mix whenever I get another dog (or an American Staffordshire or AmStaf/Great Dane mix).

I love Great Danes. I'd even adopt one if they weren't genetic cesspools.

FYI: If you're going to get a dog bigger than you are I definitely recommend watching The Dog Whisperer w/ Ceasar Millan. You may have already seen it but it's great!

^^yeah, I don't think I'll get another purebred Dane. They just don't live long enough (and they're kind of unwieldy and hard to transport/house/feed/etc)

[Edited on May 5, 2006 at 12:26 AM. Reason : if you don't mind their short lifespans and can handle the logistics, they are AWESOME]

Yeah a purebred is going to have a lot of issues. A Dane/Lab mix is a great dog though.

8-10 years isnt hard to get theses days, we have had several go 12 years. Food ,meds and better understanding of the breed over the last 10 years has helped a lot. I can say that they can be unwieldy, thats why like with any rescue dog you need to start training it as soon as you get one. Housing issues are generally limited to the dog taking over a couch. For the most part they are big,low energy and lovable.

Heres my Dane I adopted from MAGDRL.

Here is a Dane that we were called out to pick up as an owner surrender, as you can see he had a pretty crappy place to live.

I am happy to report that he is now clean, healthy and up for adoption. There are some more pics and a short bio on "Slim" on the website http://www.ncdanerescue.com/

Thanks, Dave

Chihuahua's and Danes seem to be a popular pair for some reason. They do look cute together though. Nothing funnier than watching a 170# Dane back down from a 3# Chihuahua.
