I was driving back from Hickory, hit the heavy rain near UNC. On concrete, i can run damn 80 with no problems. As soon as I hit asphalt, the damn car was walking around at 60. Thats bullshit. Not that i want to run 80 in the rain, its just bullshit that there is so much of a watershed difference between the two.

concrete absorbs water and tar works as a sealer on the gravel

Most interstate concrete is somewhat grooved to help in shedding water.

its all about the slope, and quality of any surface... If the road is sloped like its supposed to be, either should be fine, but your right the asphalt is typically slippery. Interstate cemete is rough, asphalt is much better dry

i was running 45 mph in the rain yesterday on 64, behind some stupid old fuck with four way flashers on in the left lane that took 3 miles to pass a truck that was in the right lane if you can't drive in the rain then you don't need a license, for fucks sake, i probably coulda passed em in the median in 6 feet of snow at those insane speeds

i noticed too on Tryon between Gorman and That fuckin road at the next light towards Cary taht even at about 50 my car was floating around in the ass enough for my roomie to notice who knows nothing about cars (subtle feelin, not talkin about fishtailin). I was suprised that it was moving like that though. I think a lot of that is a watershed problem.

please dont use the word "watershed" improperly in this thread again.

kthx

ps.. asphalt or "tar and gravel" is concrete too.. just with a different type of binder/matrix (asphalt vs. portland cement)

it is your tires

dry/wet performance trade off

it isnt the damn road

which explains the difference between traction on the different surfaces right?... what the thread was all about...

it sounded to me like you were asking why you were getting shitty performance in the wet

you are because you obviously have tires geared towards dry performance on your car

is it a function of the road

but you cant do a damn thing about the road

so why are you bitching?

just get some new tires if you want to be able to drive 80+ on asphalt

na, i wasnt bitchin, i was just suprised at the difference in wet traction between the two surfaces.

But yeah, i have Goodyear Eagle SCs and they arent supposed to be worth a shit in the rain.

better remember that too bitches. we're all championship race drivers, all of us have scca and nasa licenses, tons of experience in drift events, and each and every one of us can out drive a hybrid android monster cobbled together from the talents of mario andretti, ayrton senna, jensen button, michael schumacher, and juan pablo montoya. and the motorcycle guys can outride valentino rossi, on their bad days. nothing, and i mean NOTHING, can ever compare to the driving greatness that is the TWW garage.
