2001 Yamaha R6 Red/White 12200 miles. Runs perfect, some cosmetic damage, lots of aftermarket parts. Perfect for first bike. Asking $4000. I don't check TWW often...so if you're serious, call 919.539.7988. I live in Lake Park so you can come check it out. 5/8/2006 12:13:03 PM |

it isn't the aftermarket parts that make it unsuitable as a first motorcycle. bolt on mods don't do all that much to a race-replica...they're already tuned from the factory to be exploit almost all of the performance potential.
it's the fact that it's a race-rep to begin with. R6s are fantastic motorcycles, but they aren't a beginner's machine at all. Americans have this crazy idea that 600s are small, entry level machines, which is not at all the case. 600s are middleweights--they just don't sell the smaller displacement bikes here because not enough people want them. a 600cc sportbike is an EXTREMELY high performance machine. It has much more power than a novice rider should try to play with, and a very aggressive chassis. Hell, even the brakes can get you in trouble if you're ham-handed or don't know when and how to use them.
Learn to ride on something less powerful and more forgiving. You'll learn faster, and you have a somewhat greater chance of not crashing. Ride for at least 6 months before you buy any sportbike, and then definitely don't go with anything bigger than a 600. 6/9/2006 1:18:14 AM |

I'd probably buy that R6 if it had some gauges on it. Ahmet 6/10/2006 2:10:23 AM |
