I don’t know crap about cars but my car is making an odd sound that I think is coming from the muffler area. It’s a regular dah dah dah dah dah sound like its pushing hard, a regular beat coughing spell sorta… also as the car was driving and especially when it was sitting still it felt like the car was vibrating a lot more than usual. Does anyone knows what’s going on? The next inspection isn’t until December & I’m not sure I’ll be keeping the car that long. Within a month I’ll be in a city with some public transit. Advice? I do need something not dangerous & something that can last about 1 month longer... can she make it? (95 chevy lumina)

haha I realize you're trying but...thats an awful description

to make a car vibrate, the muffler will have to have a huge hole or be nearly shorn off (read: LOUD)

motor mount? could be causing the exhaust to vibrate as well and make a noise but i don't know if it's the noise you are describing

vibration can be a lot of things... misfiring spark plugs, loose or bad coils... as far as the muffler area you've probably got a loose hanger or a hole... get under the car and look... it would be better if the car were running, though many would see this as very dangerous... inspect your exhaust for holes/loose hangers first, then you need some more help

does it sound like an exhaust sound (not just location, but like a car with a bad muffler)? does it change with speed of the car or the rpms of the engine?

[Edited on May 9, 2006 at 5:55 PM. Reason : you should check your lug nuts first, tho...]
