Has anyone been here for dinner? (I know they serve lunch but I'm asking about dinner b/c I hear their menu changes and it gets a bit fancier.) What did you think about the food? Price? Atmosphere?
Thanks in advance. 5/9/2006 9:35:25 AM |

great food - very different than lunch. For dinner, it's more of am 'upscale southern/soul food' kind of menu. Good portions, very tasty, presented nicely. The prices are higher, with entrees in the $15-20 range (probably 25-ish for steaks, lobster, etc). I would recommend going with the daily specials, I have always liked them.
As for atmosphere, it's small and cozy, and busy. It's got kind of a local diner feel (the owner is always there), with a WWII theme (period photos on the walls, etc.). Like I said, it's usually pretty busy on weekends, bustling, but still a good time. Not necessarily a quiet, romantic kind of place, but a fun date place or place to hang with some friends.
Oh yeah - if you have never been - make sure you save room for dessert. Their cakes are delicious and the slices are big enough to share with a few friends. they close around 9:30 though, so no late night dining.
Hope that helps. 5/9/2006 10:10:53 AM |

thanks a lot! i had heard some about it but wanted another opinion...so far you both have said the same thing.
the event is my graduation and my boyfriend's parents want to take me out. in addition, my parents are going to be in town so they are joining us...ze parents will be meeting for the first time. i wanted to find a place that wasn't expensive and had a good atmosphere so if the parents end up hating each other, there would at least be good food and good atmosphere that would make the meal enjoyable/bearable. a setting that would allow conversation, but nothing too intimate. nice, but comfortable at the same time. 5/9/2006 10:25:03 AM |

It's really not a good place for large groups (for dinner). You might want to check out Bloomesbury Bistro or the Gleenwood Grille instead. 5/9/2006 12:14:06 PM |

it's only 6 people. bloomsbury is too expensive and i wasn't too impressed with it when i went anyway. i don't know anything about glenwood grill. 5/9/2006 12:21:11 PM |

i'd agree with everything dave said, but my only criticism is that you sit pretty close to the people around you at other tables (there's not a lot of room between tables) 5/9/2006 1:08:48 PM |

They are known for their dessert, not so much their main courses. 5/9/2006 5:58:01 PM |

Their "Dial M for Meatloaf" dish is good there. And like everyone has mentioned, space is limited there so try to show up earlier for dinner or call ahead for reservations. I had a slice of their 'Patty Cake' dessert the last time I was there and it was absolutely amazing. 5/9/2006 6:59:06 PM |

after dining there last night...yes it is small, but imo it's not so small and they don't cram a shit ton of tables in there that you are uncomfortable. they take reservations for parties over 4. i had their daily special tuna picata with their mashed potatoes and it was sooooooo good. all plates were a ridiculous amount of food for the price, which was not expensice at all. presentation of the dishes were very nice. next time i'm gonna get the pork medalions b/c they sounded delicious (and was the most expensive item on the menu at $16.95). desserts looked awesome...i got my favorite apple pie a la mode...other guests got the cheesecake and the tiramisu and the slices were the biggest i've ever seen! definitely split a dessert among two people if not three...we all had a little bit of left overs to take home. the atmosphere is awesome for dinner. i can't wait to go back! 5/19/2006 11:18:32 AM |
