Potential graduation present from the pops, which would you choose:
lifetime memebership for the ncsu alumni association
new tag heuer watch
or other suggestions ~ the same price range
I havent really worn a watch consistantly since HS, mostly b/c couldnt find one I liked within my price range at the time (~150 then, obv. has changed now). Not really sure what the alumni association membership details.
lemme know kiddos

There's really very little benefit to the alumni association other than knowing that you're contributing. There are some events that they do every now and then, but I've never participated in any of them.
I'd go for the watch. 5/10/2006 10:13:29 AM |

meh i wouldn't go for the alumni thing. but then again i was never a big ncsu promoter (woudn't have been for any school). only thing i see that you get from it is the regular communications begging you to donate more money. ok and the occasional soiree but then i'd never attend one myself.
personally i'd opt for the watch. a good, classic watch will last you years. 5/10/2006 11:06:21 AM |

Yea, I think you (or your dad) have probably given enough money to the university. Go for the watch. You really don't get anything with the alumni association except an email address and a newsletter.
I would prefer a Citizen Ecco Drive Titanium, but get what you like. But a good watch will last you forever. 5/10/2006 1:25:50 PM |

Who wants a watch to last forever?
Besides, those dial watches are gonna be obsolete in a couple years when technology permits us to communicate using watches. 5/10/2006 1:34:27 PM |

Classic lines of an analog watch will never go out of style.
Just go buy your $5 casio from wal-mart and stay out of a serious disscussion. 5/10/2006 1:51:41 PM |

the TAG is nice if you play tennis, but if you like to smash VAG and drive european cars really fast I'd opt for either a brietling or a rolex . . . 5/10/2006 3:58:39 PM |

Well, come see me when you're ready
And for what it's worth, my choices would be:
Breitling, Panerai, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Tag Heuer
For the $1000-1500 budget, you need to stay with the Aquaracer Tag... so, one of the top two of the pics shown above. The others are out of budget, with the excetion of Kirium, which only 2 are left in production. 5/10/2006 11:30:34 PM |

People, Breit and Rolex are WAY out of this price range. Its like recommending a Bugatti to someone looking at a 3 series.

i don't understand this shit with giving watches as graduation presents. i guess it made sense back in our parents' and grandparents' youth, but that custom is pretty irrelevant now. no one really puts much stock into a person wearing a nice watch nowadays. you should try to get something much more practical. in no particular order, i'd rather have the following before a watch or even a lifetime membership to the alumni association:
1. a car, or a downpayment 2. stocks, bonds, or other investments 3. lasik surgery (i wear glasses now), or whatever surgery you need/want. 4. a nice summer vacation to europe and/or asia 5. some nice suits (to wear during a job search, or for a jump start once i start my career).
