My dumb ass didn't ask.
I'm presuming one of the sensor wires is grounding out intermittently. This was a brief over-the-phone conversation. The truck isn't in front of me, so I can't really do any troubleshooting.
The fuel pump has its own fuse/circuit, right?

yea, the fuel pump should be in a diff relay/circuit. there are a ton of things hooked up to that system/fuse. check the crank positioning sensor, and some ppl have had their 02 sensors get melted some and short out on the header and pop the fuse. could be a ton of things. i'm lookin for some stuff online for you.
is he getting spark at all? i had to replace mine and my engine would turn, but not fire at all, just a whirrrrrrrr of the starter

I dunno about the spark thing. He says the PCM/ASD fuse keeps popping and the truck just dies.
I presume it'll crank over, but I don't know if the fuel pump is running or not. If the PCM fuse pops, then there should be no spark and no signal to the fuel pump relay, and therefore no injection.

worked on extensively on my sis's old 96 zj and 99 wj, and have wj parts on my tj too
did his jeep throw ne codes?

for the codes you cant flash it with the iginition like the 97 and earlier, have to use a scanner
but it turns out being older than a 98
Cycle the ignition key On/Off/On/Off/On within 5 seconds. Then Count the number of times the "check engine" lamp flashes on and off.
Code Description 11 No crank reference signal detected during engine cranking. Intermittent loss of either camshaft or crankshaft position sensor. CKP sensor target windows have too much variation. 12 Direct battery input to PCM was disconnected within the last 50 Key-on cycles. 13 No difference recognized between the engine MAP reading and the barometric (atmosphere) pressure reading from start-up. 14 MAP sensor input above or below acceptable voltage. 5 volt output to MAP sensor open. 15 No vehicle speed sensor signal detected during road load conditions. 17 Engine did not reach operating temperature within acceptable limits. Engine does not reach 20ยบ F. within 5 minutes with a vehicle speed signal. 21 Upstream oxygen sensor response slower than minimum required switching frequency. Upstream oxygen sensor heating element circuit malfunction. Downstream oxygen sensor heating element circuit malfunction. Downstream oxygen sensor input voltage maintained above the normal operating range. Oxygen sensor voltage too low, tested after cold start. (Upstream or Downstream) Left oxygen sensor input voltage maintained above the normal operating temperature. 22 Engine coolant temperature sensor above or below acceptable voltage. 23 Intake air temperature sensor input above or below acceptable voltage.. 24 Throttle position sensor input above or below acceptable voltage. TPS signal does not correlate to MAP sensor. 25 A shorted or open condition detected in one or more of the idle air control motor circuits. Actual idle speed does not equal target idle speed. 27 Injector #3, and/or 4, and/or 5, and/or 6 output driver does not respond properly to the control signal. 31 An open or shorted condition detected in the A/C clutch relay circuit. Insufficient or excessive vapor flow detected during evaporative emission system operation. 32 An open or shorted condition detected in the EGR solenoid circuit. Possible air/fuel ratio imbalance not detected during diagnosis. 33 An open or shorted condition detected in the duty cycle purge solenoid circuit. (air conditioning clutch relay) 34 An open or shorted condition detected in the Speed Control vacuum or vent solenoid circuits. Thanks for the advice and all, but I been pulling codes on MoPars since Jesus drove one.

So it turns out that this truck will be in my possession Wednesday.
And it's a '93 ZJ with a 5.2.

Talk about conflicting info. I was told '98 to begin with, then '93, and then I find out when I get to it that it's a '98 after all.
No big deal. This one turned out to be a walk in the park. Looked on the topside, nothing out of place. Cranked 'er up, wiggled the wiring harness in all the obvious places, nothing. Crawled underneath, looked at the pre-cat O2 sensor harness, all fine. Then I take a look back and see the post-cat O2 sensor harness...lying across the top of the driveshaft.
I looked at it closely, and sure enough, the driveshaft had rubbed through one of the O2 heater wires, shorting it out. Every time the truck would hit a bump or come to an abrupt stop, the PCM fuse would blow when the bare wire made good contact with the shaft.
While the truck was running, I pushed the harness against the shaft, blew the fuse, and killed the engine. One butt connector, one piece of heatshrink tube, a zip tie, and a new fuse later, everything's cool.
