fox shows are like the most self loathing programs ever broadcast

its like "we get shit on, but ABC would have cancelled us 6 seasons ago"

remember when family guy read that list of shows that had come and gone between the first cancelation and the return?

notice how the simpsons throw the smallest digs, but probably the most

The Critic had some great ones.

"You're watching Fox, where coming in third is a TRIUMPH!"

Though I've probably forgotten the best Simpsons ones, my current favorite dig comes from Arrested Development.

When they cut the Season Two episode order from 22 to 18, there was a plot point in the show that the Bluth Company's investors had cut their housing order by the same number. Michael is on the phone and says something about how they've already completed all the plans, and Ron Howard chimes in: "That wasn't true...but they would've!"

Simpsons is really the only one that can "get away" with it

because at first yes, the simpsons needed fox

but after about 2 or 3 seasons, fox NEEDED the simpsons

fox never needed the critic, so its jabs were that self-loathing kind like "this is the only network that would ever willingly put unwatchable crap on it -- just like this!"

Peter lists the shows Family Guy was canceled to make room for. All of these FOX shows were cancelled after short runs, usually not even airing their first season. Some of these shows (most notably Firefly, Wonderfalls, and The Tick) have found cult status through DVDs.

Titus
Undeclared
Action
That 80's Show
Wonderfalls
Fastlane
Andy Richter Controls the Universe
Skin
Girls Club

Cracking Up
The Pitts
Firefly

The Lone Gunmen
A Minute with Stan Hooper
Normal, Ohio

Pasadena
Harsh Realm
Keen Eddie

^^Yeah those Subway commercials are identical to his Tales of Ribaldry sketches from SNL. He does the same voice and everything.
