I got pulled over on Friday for expired vehicle registration and was given a citation.
I renewed the registration today, and i want to go down to the DA's office to see if i can't get the citation dropped.
Turns out i hadn't renewed the registration because it was blocked until i paid a fine for a late inspection. since i was in the process of arguing that fine, i forgot all about the registration.
1) Where is the DA's office, and who should i try to talk to ? 2) Would they give half a shit about my renewal being blocked ?
i know somebody on here is familiar with the system, and i very much appreciate any help. 5/15/2006 1:20:50 PM |

take in your renewed registration on the court date and they will drop an expired registration charge.
if you had other charges that aren't paid or/dealt with then you may have to deal with those, but it sounds like they are resolved since you got your registration done. 5/15/2006 1:30:31 PM |

It will be in disposition court and you can just walk in, have your shuck pulled, go up the DA and present your renewed registration and they will dismiss ticket.
disp court is on the first floor (fayetteville st side) where the clerks office used to be.
They most likely wont ask for an explanation regarding why you let it expire. They just want to get you out of their face so they can get to the next fucker in line.

so i should not try to go into the DA's office now? i'm leaving town in a few weeks, so it would suck to drive back to raleigh for this later on.
if the DA's office is receptive at all, i would want to try that.. but if they don't want to deal with this shit outside of the court, then i guess disposition court it is. 5/15/2006 1:43:12 PM |

you could call them and ask them. i wouldn't waste my time going there in person cause they will probably tell you to come on your court date. 5/15/2006 1:44:11 PM |

I hope it wasnt in Durham.... Nifong would probably indict you for rape as well. There might not be any evidence, but remember 80% of his cases do not have a DNA match. He might issue warrants for Mr Magoo, Grape Ape and Scrappy Doo, because evidently this case isnt ludicrious enough. 5/15/2006 2:07:26 PM |

if it's in wake county, the DA or anyone in his office, won't talk to you either on the phone or in person prior to the court date
they will drop it in 30 seconds at the court date though, when they call your name 5/15/2006 4:59:27 PM |

If you get the ticket dropped do you still have to pay court fees? Those are like 90% of the ticket usually. 5/15/2006 5:15:27 PM |

PFJ isn't same as getting the ticket dropped.
if it's dismissed, you should not be held responsible for court costs. 5/15/2006 6:06:43 PM |

On a similar note:
Do they fine/charge extra when you get your car inspected and it is grossly overdue for an inspection? (like 8 months) 5/15/2006 6:49:04 PM |

I keep hearing mixed things about this. Has anyone else had the same experience?

I don't think so, but my inspection is up again a year from the month it was supposed to be inspected, not a year from the actual month I got it inspected.

depends. if you let it go too long you'll get a letter saying that if you don't have it inspected by a particular date, they'll hit you with a $250 fine in addition to the registration which has already been blocked by that point. 5/16/2006 8:35:50 AM |

i just got my citation dropped a few days ago
It took me 1 minute inside the court room
all you do is
go in the court room , go to the far corner and say your name (they pull your case)
if its not busy they should call your name ahead of other cases
show the D A your new registration/(might need license and citation also) then walk out
only money i spent was on parking 5/16/2006 8:40:54 AM |

I went into the DA's today.. gave them the citation and the renewed registration, and they dismissed it right there. Very nice, helpful people, those receptionists. makes my day. 5/17/2006 5:04:40 PM |

When I got one for the same reason, I just went to the police department and they took care of it. No court or anything. 5/17/2006 6:04:43 PM |

I've gotten expired registration tickets dropped before, but will they do the same for an expired inspection ticket if you take in proof of inspection on the court date? 5/19/2006 3:09:09 PM |

I got a ticket for out of date registration (3/4 mos). Went to court on the date and they dismissed it, didn't have to pay fee or court costs. Don't know anything about doing it early but I don't think they'd be interested.
I got one in Florida as well (yeah I'm forgetful) there even if you get the registration done they won't drop the charge, unless you throw a fit, which I did.5/19/2006 3:13:43 PM |
