thats great and all, but if you were actually at a game this season where we were losing at halftime (i.e. Carolina, Boston College, etc.) you probably noticed how we got our asses handed to us in the first half because the opposing coach had figured out our offense and defense. So, you would think that our 'great coach who has lead us to 5 straight NCAA tourneys' would realize this and come up with a different gameplan.

But noooo, they would come out with the SAME EXACT gameplan as they used in the first half, that was being outplayed. There was literally no other style of offense that we would run, it was all or nothing. Thus, after our fans realized this, and saw that we would NEVER go any further than the sweet sixteen of the NCAA's, it was time for a new coach.

Hell, Herb is lucky he got out when he did, it was only a matter of time before the rest of the coaches in the ACC/nation figured his system out, then we'd be fucked.

I'm also really tired of hearing about how unappreciative we are. No one that started disliking Herb in the last couple of years wasn't appreciative of where Herb took the team. We thought the team was in a place where it could do better than Herb seemed to care to do.

It boils down to this, kids. Herb Sendek is a sweetheart of a guy. Just a real mensch. Coaching circles know this. Broadcasters know this. So once people here started calling for his job, we became the assholes that pick on the nicest kid in class and it didn't matter what the reasons for it were. All they knew was we were picking on a guy they knew to be just a super super super fella.

So we get shit like this. It happens. It's not like sportswriters were ever in love with this school or anything anyway.

yeah in 1973 we cheated really badly...we played a couple games of basketball, which is technically cheating...so they didnt let us win our national title in 1973...but cheating coaches built our program to unrealistic heights...norm sloan was a cheater...we didnt go undefeated in 1973 and win the national championship in 1974 because we had the best college player of all time or anything...its because we cheated

i dont care what anybody says. i was never a herb basher and i actually liked the guy, but i am glad he left and i couldn't be happier having sidney lowe with the coaching staff he has brought in. if lowe doesn't lead the team to the elite 8 within 6 years i will honestly be surprised. even if he doesn't go there i love him just for his and his teammates heroics in '83.

This is such bullshit, no way we are #4...

Its the #1 or #2 for sure.

I mean think about it people... within 20 minutes we have the most dominant basketball program over the last 2 decades and the most prominent program in college basketball, period. These two have 7 national championships and countless Final Four appearances between them. They are beloved across the country and the media is behind them... hell, they recruit players for their other sports. We have 2 National Championships and arguably the greatest player in college history, a top 15 program historically, and we are still the third best program in the same urban region. Honestly, there is no other situation like this is sports. There are years you can be the 4th best team in the state and still be top 15-20 in the country... nowhere else can you find such a difficult scenario. Honestly, almost everything is working against you as a coach for NCSU.

NC State was put on probation in 1973 because an assistant at State at the time played a pickup game with David Thompson and it was considered to be an illegal tryout. Big FUCKING DEAL.

Duke also received probation for DT's recruitment because a Duke booster gave David Thompson a coat.

What did the 1983 team do to cheat? What did Valvano do to cheat?

Doyel has an excuse since he was born retarded but those assholes like the ones above who agree with Doyel should have transferred from State yesterday. Ignorant and stupid is no way to go through life...

... the guy wasn't even a "booster" really...or at least I dont think. Seems like I heard he was just a Duke alumnus, a family friend, and had known David and his family since DT was a toddler.

The sweatshirt (which I believe is what it was) was a birthday present. It just so happened that it came from a Duke alum... and the NCAA were little bitches back then
