I need someone to help me fix some digital pictures of graduation. For example, blurry and dark photos. If this is the wrong board just let me know.

you can't unblur blurry photos, and you cant make super dark photos look normal.

All that stuff you see on those television criminal shows and tv movies? Complete bullshit.

Now if the lighting is just slightly dark, or uneven across a picture, it might be salvageable.

photoshop you can gamma correct stuff and improve it... but it probably won't look stellar

you cannot sharpen blurry as hell photos back to normal. You can PHOTOSHOP photos back to normal, but thats complete interpretation.

companies locally write the software that do the DSP/image recognition for the military...

always keep in mind that what you know about and see on TV is 20 years old ...

take "enemy of the state"... totally fictional movie... the scene where they do the 3d rotation on the person from a 2d fixed image... total bullshit... but the stuff where they zoom into a satellite photo and say "enhance... enhance... enhance..." that stuff is real, they really can read a newspaper from space with DSP

Cutting through all the bullshit and posturing in this thread...

Open your image in photoshop. Go to Image -> adjustments -> levels.

Toy with the brightness and contrast on the image (also under Image -> adjustments).

To try and correct a small amount of blurriness, go to Filter -> Sharpen -> Unsharp Mask.

It won't work miracles, but you might be able to help your photos a bit. Good luck.

noen is right, whoever was taking the pics should have used flash, or taken into account that the camera is digital and dont work in dark places. there is no such thing as unblurring photos and shit like that.

If a photo is out of focus, it seems to me it would theoretically be possible to sharpen it significantly if you knew the conditions of the scene (type of lens, distance of objects, etc.).

^^ a computer science phd student out west was working on a camera like that about a year ago. It did something like use multiple mirrors to capture extra ... stuff... (I don't know how the hell it worked). But essentially when that camera was used with the software he wrote, it could bring into focus any image, no matter how badly out of focused it started. I'd try to search for the article, but I've got to get to work.

ok lemme rephrase... with a really good lense providing an analog signal through a very high quality ADC that is fed through a edge recognizing DSP... you should be able to do what I was talking about...

with a limited megapixel digital camera... you can adjust the contrast and you can apply sharpening filters (that are DSP's also) but you have to have something to start with...

I think we were on the same page... I think I was drunk when I wrote that... and thus a Dumbass that wasn't communicating properly... but the bottom line is it is done with DSP

you are still assuming you are using an ultra high resolution capable source. In that case you are just reorganizing an existing data set.

all the sharpening filters and retardo movie style enhancement crap is worthless on a image that's already been taken with a consumer camera.

^^ t-dubs picture resizing and re-resolutioning would result in a (likely) smaller photo and also at 72 dpi
